Anybody knows what is the status of his injury and/or when he is planning to come back to tour?Now it is more than 1 year since he played his last tournament...Hopefully he will come back,he was one of my favourite players...

He´s practicing with Magnus Larsson in Växjö where he lives nowadays, no comebackstatus as of yet

I'm definitely one of the people who misses Andreas. I'm thankful that I was smart enough to record some of his matches during his last brief comeback try. He's still young and it sucks that his body won't let him go for long stretches of time. As of two weeks ago, he no longer has a ranking

I think I especially have a soft spot due to him being a fellow leftie

Vinci went through a surgery on his left knee the other day that went very well. Now he´s gonna try to practice and see if he can make a comeback this summer, if so he´s gonna try to play challenger and future level. :cool:

So, Vince is back!! He played his first tournament after his long injury, a summertour event in Sweden and WON it!!!! Of course it´s another level then on the ATP tour but it´s a good test to try to play and see where he stands at the moment, he beat former top 200 Swede Johan Settergren (who has retired from ATP-level) in the final 7-6 6-1 and hopefully now will play the ATP tour event in Båstad in two weeks time! :GoodLuck:

Vinci is back and winning

that is great,anybody saw the match,how did he play or did anybody talk (Patrik 77?) to him how does he feel and what are his plans? The score is very impresive,Vinci-Ryderstedt 63,61 :lol:

Yes I saw the match, great to see him play again!! He broke Ryderstedts serve in the first game and then just continued to play safe and served pretty well. Ryderstedt made a lot of mistakes so Vince could just take it easy in the windy conditions. After the match he said that he was a little bit nervous but not that nervous he thought he would be.

I asked him about his next match and he said that he´d beaten Youzhny a couple of times in the juniors and he feels he has a good chance, about Haehnel he didn´t know much. Plans after this tournament is to play challengers (probably Tampere next), hopefully he´ll get a WC to that one, if not he will try to play the Qualies, he´s also gonna play the US Open Qualies. :GoodLuck:

That´s it for now, will be very interesting to see how he´s gonna deal with the tougher match in the next round!

Vinci just lost a very tough match against Youzhny...6-4 6-7(4) 5-7

I read that he was up 5-2 in that 2nd set

. I wasn't able to follow the scoreboard till 4 ALL in the 3rd and Vinci did save 2 MPs when he was serving at 4-5 but went down 0-40 at 5-6. I'm wondering if fatigue had anything to do with it?

Still a great start for him after two years :HeadBang:

Well, I had the chance to see the match. Regarding the quality of play Youzhny was the better, aggressing more and taking the net attacking Vinci´s weak wing, his backhand.

Fun to see him back, sadly I don´t have too high expectations though, he will always have problems with his backhand, volley and physique it seems, he ran like **** today...

I have not seen the match but I disagree with you Marcus.He can be again at least in Top100,if he stays healthy.It is not easy to come after such a long injury break.Just check other players coming after year or two...I think he did very well at Baastad.

And the score,yes,he was leading 64,52 and at 65 in the second set he had matchpoint...

Stevie, what I meant wasn´t the scoreline but the quality of play from Vinci. Youzhny didn´t play so well, plenty of mistakes, but all in all he dictated the game and attacked alot more than Vinci.

Vinci could well have won, should have. What worries me is his quality of play(technical and tactical), not his regularity or fighting spirit. He can surely make top 100 but he´ll struggle against a good player if that good player has a good day(doesn´t miss). Injuries will be his potential risk.

We will see,I hope Vinci will get back at least to Top 50,but what I wanted to say is that we can not judge him after 1 matcj especially after such a long injury break.Maybe Youzhny took more risk and Vinci not,however,I think it is also connected to self believe which comes from match practise and tough matches on the tour

Youzhny won on all his drop shots, he made like at least 20! After the match Vince was dissapointed but still felt that he played well after being away for so long time, he said that he should be on top of his game to Australian Open! Next tournament for him will be the challenger in Tampere.

He´s been practicing hard and should be ready to play again! He wouldn´t have taken the long trip otherwise! It will be very interesting to see which form he is in, as you say he hasn´t played for a while!

Thanks Patrik.I also hope he is ready for new season and can get back at least to Top 100.I was affraid as I have not seen him for some time that he is injured again,because in the fall he wihdraw from few tournaments...but Meffert is tough opponent for the beginning,big guy with big shots...we will see.Good luck Vinci

Meffert would be terrible. I saw him live not a long time ago. It would be very very unlucky to take along trip just to lose to Meffert.

At least he didn't lose 1-6 2-6 to copy of Ai Sugiyama. :HeadBang:

Vinci likes the claycourts the most (I think...) so maybe we should wait few months more. But what is worrying, when a player loses and loses and knows he has problems with health, he can lose the faith in himself... I wish this never happened :Dejected:

I doubt if it can make anyone happier but I have just written the second part of my exam pre-date qual. and did really good, I think I can really make it. In the opposite to my favourite players.

Yeeh...that is what I was afraid of.Meffert with his powerful game beat Vinci easily...Nathi,I was meffert in Bratislava and he really improved. But still I was hoping for better result. He just need to stay healthy!
And Ryderstedt,no comment,to loose to player like Sugijama 16,26...that is bad.What surprised me that Jeff Salzenstein after such a long break won so easily.Anybody have some info about his injury and how serious is his comeback.He is not youngest player around...

blaaah i was writing a message for over 15 minutes and it got cancelled. alright, let's point it out:

1) Meffert is crazy, throws racquet a lot and behaves like he was "on something"

but him and other German Berrer are hot too watch. If you say he has the further improvement, than the more it's true.

2) Ryderstedt is crazy, because he doesn't have a coach and I suppose he has got some support from the Swedish federation. I don't really know what's on, when I asked him why he didn't have acoach he answered smth like: "Ohhh yeaah... you're right. I should call him" (it was about Mr Pavel Strauss). It's not like a sportsman's attitude especially that I haven't received any information he did call the guy I'm talking about. Or anybody else. (maybe he did but i only say i don't know) He made 30 unforced errors in that match, even Marta Domachowska (POL) makes less in so short matches (and she's famous of it).
Anyway it must be frustrating travelling around the world alone all the time, gosh, this guy is only 21 and I didn't notice he's socializing much with other people.
Ad he really should read tennis forums.

3) I saw Salzenstein live only once. He didn't show much except of showing a new T-shirt in each of 3 sets. (it was Wrocław challenger of course) but not too long after it he won an ATP tournament (or reached a final... I think he won). I don't really suppose he can be something extraordinary at this age because it's obvious he never was.

I like your new "signature". No one EVER has to justify or explain why they like certain players. Match results are only part of the story, although they are all of the story when it comes to money.

Vince is one of six guys in the Swedish Davis Cup team that are going to play against Argentina 10-12th of Feb in Buenos Aires. They are going on a trainingcamp to Uruguay next week and hopefully Vince stays in South America trying to qualify for the clay court events there.

Vince has now decided not to join the Swedish DC-team for the traingcamp in Uruguay, he´s gonna concentrate on his own business instead. T.Johansson, Björkman, Aspelin, Lindstedt and Eleskovic will go and it´s still uncertain if Söderling will go. Probably the team wants him and definitly need him but he has said that he´s not ready for five set matches and said to Wilander that he wished not to be chosen. Now it´s up to Wilander to either go against the team or against Robin.....

Yeah, a sad story with all his injuries. But he´s a fighter! Last he had a surgery on his knee and his doctor said that now there shouldn´t me any more medical obstacles, it is all about the mental thing now, to fight back again. The doctor also said that he thought Vince could be playing at the end of the summer again

INJURY UPDATE

Vinciguerras coach Magnus Larsson said that he hopes that Vinci will play a couple of tournaments at the end of the year, that is the earliest that Vince can start play again. Right now there is not much of practicing, still feeling the injury

He has just had a knee operation for the fifth time and will not make any comeback during 2008. In September of 2007 he had plans to make a comeback early this year but was forced to surgery again.

What happens now is that he will start with rehab training which according to Vince will take about six months. So after six months he can start practice tennis again. So in other words no comeback during 2008 is possible.
