Interesting. The entry list for Adelaide is in, and the new point situation for the Round Robin event there isn't even clear yet ... :?

Interesting to see that Federer breaks his schedule and doesn´t play Doha this year though he has been so succesfull with the Doha and Australian Open wins over the years. He will probably just play Kooyong then before AO.

In Adelaide will be played A 32-player round robin draw.

It means:
A 32-player round robin draw consisting of a 16-player “play-off” with the 8 winners joining 16 other players to make up the 8 groups of 3 players. Each player will then play two guaranteed matches in the round robin stage. The winner from each group will advance to the knockout round (quarterfinals), and then will play out the tournament per a traditional single-elimination format.

So how they will choose 16 players for "play-off" round??

Can anyone tell it?

The 16 highest ranked players, at the time they do the draw,
who are effectively seeds will get a bye direct into the Round Robin.

The remaining 12 players, plus the 4 qualifiers will play one match
to earn the right to get into the Round Robin.

So a qualifier could play
3 Qualifying matches
1 Play off Round
2 Round Robin Matches
1 Quarter Final
1 Semi Final
1 Final

which means 9 matches in one event !!!!!

Thanks a lot Judio for your info!
Nice to know how it works.

How about ranking points to
- play-off match winners?
- round robin match winners?

Awaiting ATP Rules to be published, probably not until Jan !!!
All prize money has gone up so they will have to reclassify
the points on two counts.

I will guess that the Race points will be half way in between, (like first round winners in Miami get 4)
eg
Round Robin winner will get 8
Round Robin runner up will get 4
and Round Robin Loser will get 1

Qualifiers will get 1 point
and the Play off match winners will get 1

It isn't that bad as the qualifying draw has shrunk
32 Hybrid Round System – 16 players participate in knockout round while the top 16 players wait in 8 groups (2 per group). The 8 winners of the knockout stage will be place d in th ose 8 groups, forming the 8 groups of 3 players. From this point forward, the tournament is played exactly like the 24 round robin event. Qualifying draw will consist of 16 players. Tournament winners that come from the round robin stage will play 5 matches and those players who come from the knockout stage will play 6 matches (except for qualifiers)

"Although he is carrying a slight wrist injury, Thailand tennis number one Paradorn Srichaphan will compete in the Chennai Open in India which begins on January 1. Paradorn pulled out of the Asian Games singles tournament earlier this month because of the wrist injury and said he wanted to be sure he was fit for the Australian Open in a couple of weeks. But he feels he has recovered enough and will test his wrist in Chennai. However if the injury is still a problem he will pull out. Paradorn reached the Chennai final from 2002 to 2005 and won the title in 2003, but only made the quarter-final last year.
Paradorn heads for Chennai today(Friday 29th dec) along with compatriots Danai Udomchoke, who won the Asian Games gold medal and the Ratiwatana twins Sonchat and Sanchai, who will compete in the doubles"
