I have a question - sorry if this has been asked before somewhere. If a player is on the Alternate List for a tournament (for example Paul Capdeville in Beijing), but he doesn't get into the Main Draw by Friday - can he still enter quallies in another tournament the same week? Of course I know this may not always be applicable because of distances/time differences between venues etc - but it was more a hypothetical question, and could apply especially with some of the European tournaments where venues are very close together. Thanks in advance.

There is no automatic commitment from a payer not in the INITIAL official entry list, to play the event. Anybody who is on an ALT list at any tournament is allowed to play anywhere else he wants.

If the cut drops on thursday/friday, ATP calls and asks if you want to play if you make the cut, you ask to be kept in the list, then you make the cut, and you have gone somewhere else to sign in for qualies or something - you could get fined, I think. If you didn'r promise to play there or they couldn't get hold of you, and you made the list without knowing and you were already somewhere else to play, then they will not fine you. The organizers said on romanian TV that 2 of the WC will go for sure to romanians....one to the player that achieved the maximum number of points in the romanian futures circuit (Craciun or Cruciat or Ionita )... one to a surprise romanian player (someone from Sabau , Ungur, Crivoi, Mergea , Moraru or someone else )...and the 3rd they said they are going to keep for a top 30 player that might want to come...but they said they are going to refuse the dopped guys like Canas or Puerta and so on..... probably it will go to a romanian player also because none of the good guys wants to come to Bucharest after the USOPEN instead of a nice vacation somewhere nice.

Bucharest seems like a shitty tournament this year, a little publicity (good or bad (if you think that way)) wont hurt them, besides Puerta can't play till 2007. Obviously ATP could encourage tournament directors not to give WC to Cañas, i dont know, perhaps the comeback will be at a challenger.

For me as a romanian I just want romanians in the draw...because guys like you that play tennis come to Bucharest saying that is another shitty tournament after they played in the big STATES....and every time a BIG SHOT came to Bucharest lost in the first round and didn't do any publicity to the tournament........I think this is a tournament that helps romanian tennis players to get better.....

bmarian, sorry for the "shitty" thing. Im in not way trying to be offensive and my english is not that good. I understand your point of view, but when the Buenos Aires tournament is held i always hope for a big name (even if it requires a WC that can go to a local player).

I think that the WC for Bucuresti tournament should be for romanian players. There are lot of young romanian players and Romania should give them a chance.
I think that Ionita, Moraru and Craciun could receive one. And also Pavel, if he doesn't enters directly in the main draw.

I love romanian tournament and I hope this year it can be as good as always.

One suggestion -- when you do the updates, can you strictly follow the alphabetical order for main draw withdrawals and rank order for the ALT list? .. Makes it alittl eeasier when a whole bunch of withdrawals happen toghether and we need to see what changed in the list .. Thanks!

I have edited/updated/color-coded the lists at the top ..

OK, this is the scoop on all the confusion about where Ljubicic came from .. No, he was never in the entry list .. From what I can see he was simply brought in as a replacement for Nadal .. In the normal case, the tournaments use up a wildcard when a top player wants to play .. But there is an obscure rule I seem to remember, in the ATP book that ATP can replace the withdrawal of a "player essential to the viability of the tournament" (something like that) if another player can be found, without using up a wildcard. I have not noticed the rule being used (and I know it because I complained when the Chennai Open was unaware of this and wasted a wildcard they could have used on an Indian once) .. Looks like this is what happened. Nadal withdrew, and Ljubicic agreed to play .. So ATP simply replaced Nadal with Ljubicic in the draw. He never entered the entry list!

Anyway, I edited the list that Terry had guessed and corrected .. Ramon Delgado was not first-out from the list. He was in the initial list itself.
