I think ATP must have had a small mistake in the first list that we posted above earlier. Now Bjorkman is in the Queens list and Greul is first out. I have made the correction above.

3 Wild Crads for Queens awarded to;

Former Wimbledon finalist Mark Philippoussis has been handed a wild card entry to the Stella Artois Championships next month.

Organisers said the 29-year-old Australian, who won the grasscourt event at Queen's Club in London in 1997, had been invited to take part in the June 12-18 tournament together with American Mardy Fish and Spain's Feliciano Lopez.

I don't suppose it really matters to anybody (except those playing!), but Liverpool isn't in London. It is in the North-West of England.

If I was British I would be very disappointed on the organizers giving a WC to Lopez instead of a Brittish player. He hasn´t achieved anything that could be worth giving him a WC because he was lazy and didn´t sign in!

LaLo only got a WC, because he is there to attract the female bretheren to the tennis.

To be honest, he should be tried in a court for impersonating a tennis player.

Well I am British - and personally I would rather see a quality player like Lopez, rather than some of the low ranked no-hopers that make up British tennis when you get past Henman, Rusedski and Murray. Having said that - my aversion to grass means I live virtually in walking distance of Queens and I won't be going there - so maybe I am not the right person to comment.

:HeadBang: :HeadBang: You go girl!

I think its also better to provide wildcards to the non english players, I mean they are a waste of time otherwise with the WC. The majority of the brits offer nothing to the tournament, and always get beaten easily. You are right about using the term "no hopers" :D Although, I agree lopez should have sorted himself out, because there are probably better options for a wc.

but surely if queens acts like this then all tournmanets should? how many other events give their wc's to deserving players reather then locals?
how many wc's has donald young had now, and how many matches has he won as a result.
phlilpiussis has had wc's for the about the last 3 years at queens i think, if he was still good enough he would have made his way back to atp tour proper by now.
also consisering britain only has 3 atp events a year its not often out players get to try at tghat level

I would question your real nationality and true interest in tennis!
If you are not interested in Queens I wonder why you are even visiting this forum!

Remember just over a year ago Murray was ranked over 400 and losing futures and remember too - without losers there would be no winners!

Most tournaments give their wildcards to players that attract a great public. In most cases, people want to see their 'local heroes' play, rather than some big international talents. It's a pity, but a lot of people who visit these tournaments don't know anything about tennis.

i disagree with several opinions here. first of all people shouldn't be bitching about lopez getting a wild card as much as they should about philippoussis. he's been getting wild cards everywhere for about 2 years now (based on his results 6 or 7 years ago) into countless tourneys he doesn't belong in. secondly, giving one wild card to a player like feliciano lopez (who is ranked high but didn't enter before the deadline) or a legitimate world renouned player who has fallen on hard times, is one thing, but three???????? as a british atp tourney, i think you have an obligation to give at least 3 wildcards to promising british players. a 2nd or 3rd round showing for such a player could boost their ranking tremendousley. i don't think england needs to pin all their tennis hopes on andy murray. so many young men grow up in england playing tennis, give them an opportunity to make it.

Maybe Phillipoussis gets wild cards at Queen's because he is also a vassal of the royalty...
And I expect players and news staff going to the right Halle this year...

Remember just over a year ago Murray was ranked over 400 and losing futures and remember too - without losers there would be no winners!

Well I cannot prove to you my nationality - but I can say that in the last 18 months alone I have visited the following tournaments live.......Marseilles, Rotterdam, Monte Carlo Masters, Hamburg Masters, Rome Masters (twice), Munich (twice) French Open (twice), Paris Bercy, Madrid Masters, and Stockholm - so I think that goes someway to prove my interest in tennis and my reason for visiting this Forum. I am just not the typical Brit who thinks that tennis only lasts for 4 weeks a year and begins and ends with Wimbledon and the stuff that happens on the grass. In fact I totally DISLIKE grass court tennis - which is a personal preference and means that instead of visiting Queens I am more than likely to be found on the beautiful clay courts of Lugano during that week. As for Andy Murray - who IS a good player I agree - I have been following the careers of people like Juan Martin de Potro and Edgardo Massa since their very, very early days - so I do know what goes on outside the Top 100. So to question my "real nationality and true interest in tennis" is damn well rude and disrespectful to someone you have never met - just because I don't happen to agree with you does not make me wrong or a liar.

Anyway - as Jay has said before on this Board - these are not threads to argue and get personal - but to post specific news on tennis entry lists etc -there are other threads here and also places like MTF to carry on any further discussions.

OK Rosie, point taken about the tennis - Please accept my apologies for speaking out of turn and out of context within these forums, I am sorry if I offended, you are quite correct - tennis only.

You are very fortunate to have seen so much top level tennis so I can understand that Queens would be disappointing to you, as is Wimbledon no doubt as a grasscourt event.
For those less fortunate Queens is about as good as it gets and the majority would prefer to see W/Cs given to national players at whatever level than to foreign players, especially those elegible for MD who didnt bother to apply hence depriving others and to he who has had 15 WC entries into his last 16 events.

Being patriotic I guess that I just 'saw red' with your criticism of British events and British players and was too quick to reply - In future I will just take another blood pressure tablet and move on to another forum.

Who said once: "the grass is for the cows"? It was Villas or Ríos? Or both? (then, of course, Villas is the original author)

I´m sure Bogdanovic is pretty disappointed not getting any WC, he´s had a good year and has won a couple of Challengers and with a great chance to win a match with a decent draw. He would deserve the WC more than Lopez I think.

It was Vilas (i dont know if Rios said that later).
As as have been said before Coria is taking a break, so even if he's not officialy out, there's a strong indication it will be.

There's a story (in German) on the Halle website, that states--if I'm translating correctly--that Rainer Schuettler received a wild card, Bjorn Phau will receive a wild card if he doesn't get in off the alternate list, and that Florian Mayer, Alexander Waske, & Philipp Kohschreiber are the candidates for the other wildcard (two if Phau doesn't use one).

According to BBC Radio in England, and also several posters on MTF, David Nalbandian will not play in Halle because of the abdominal injury that forced him to withdraw from today's semi final in Roland Garros. It seems his participation at Wimbledon is also rumoured to be in doubt.

OUT: Almagro, Ancic, Andreev, Dent, Di Mauro, Djokovic, Hernych (and Marach, Cicquel, Gabashvili, Roitman from ALT)
IN: Greul, Delgado, Norman, Carlsen, Minar, Zib, Sluiter, Kunitsyn, Reynolds
NEXT: Fish, Kim, Pavel, Capdeville, Berrer, Kubot, Llodra

I think those are the final lists..
