:? I thought there should be 51 direct entries + 1 special exempt? Is Verkerk on the list as well?

Correct: there should be 51 direct entries, one SE, four WCs, & eight Qs. Also, Safin (#50) is missing from the list (& possibly others: Verkerk, Escude, etc.).

I'm sure Jay will straighten it out.

Hewitt withdraws from Hamburg Masters due to injury

Associated Press Sports
Updated: 10:18 p.m. ET May 11, 2006

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -Lleyton Hewitt has withdrawn from next week's Hamburg Masters Series tennis tournament because of a calf muscle injury, his management team said in a statement Friday.

The injury means Hewitt will play the second Grand Slam of the year with only one clay-court warmup tournament - at Poertschach, Austria, beginning May 22, one week before the French Open.

Nalbandian has evidently pulled out of Hamburg for "personal reasons" - source: British SkySports TV channel. No other verification at this time.

Not really, he won estoril and reached semis this week he probably retired due to fatigue or eventual fatigue.

Yes, in an interview in estoril, asked what was his schedule he said that he will not play every tournament before the French, so it was already planned based on how many matches he would play. I think it's fair, he has to take care (remember his injury plagued years)

Doesn't he just pay a fine if he is not injured? Or even if he is injured, as Hewitt would have it.

And what do you say about these guys called Rafa and Roger ?

Postby Lucas Freley » Tue May 16, 2006 1:30 pm

This is smashing to see that you blame Nalbandian for not attending at Hamburgo´s tourmanent...this is really funny. Really...ha ha ha

What are you going to say about Nadal and Federer ? Did they think on those people that paid their tickes in advance to see them? Did they think in the kids that was expecting to see their in Hamburgo ???

And what we have to say about "Come On !!!" Hewitt ???? By chance, Hewitt is injured every year when he has to play the clay court season, including the 3 Master Series Clays Courts...

The history is not different about the two guys ARod and Double A (Yes I am talking about Roddick and Agassi) How anybody remember these two guys playing in Montecarlo ??? Please tell me when it happened ?

And the list can continue...So to those people in this Forum that enjoy to speak bullshit about some players, specially if this players are from South America, I recomend that first, look at your own players, and then, talk about the rest.

Por suerte no creo que David lea todas estas pavadas que dijeron de el.

as far as I know NOBODY blamed Nalbandian for pulling OUT ... the WEIRD thing was that he pulled out while he was still ACTIVE in the Roma Tournament

so ... did the ATP change their RULES or did it made an exception because of his MUM :?

Very Nice !!!

And what about Roddick ???????? He announced that will be out of Hamburgo, while he was playing in Roma...

Please, Could you do me a favour ? Can you get the compromise to report every week, all the players that renounce to play in every Tournament ?

Maybe, I think that is better what Malisse did today in Hamburgo...he leaved the match acussing an injury in the first round...I think this is more appropiate...

Take care

No Andy did not pull out of Hamburg while he was still playing in Rome. If I remember correctly, his fans discussed whether he would pull out for at least a few hours after his last match against Monfils ended. Andy pulled out of Las Vegas while he was still playing in Memphis earlier this year and he was criticised here for that. I don't think anyone on this board is attacking your player (Nalbandian) for what he did.

I think that the ATP has unofficially changed the rule, kind of the same way they seemed to loosen up on the injury protected ranking a little bit last year. Although it may not be good for the tournaments to admit on Friday that some of the bigger names have pulled out, it is more fair to the lower ranked players who can get into the main draw off the alternate list and not have to worry about playing qualies.

Calm down Lucas.
Everyone likes your player, that's why his absence is noteworthy!
The question about the rules is valid because he was still actively playing in the tournament.
Personally, I think Nadal and Federer should receive some sort of sanction, as should Roddick, Agassi, and Hewitt.
I thought the whole concept of Masters Series was that ALL the top ranked players must appear. Too easy for some to conveniently be injured, I guess.

From this point on the thread is more suited to menstennisforums. If you are not members there, then please consider joining. This thread should be reserved for information on who is in and who is out, without the comments.
Anyway, I thought the rule was simple. If you pull out without a genuine injury you pay a fine. No?

It´s a pity that this issue of players pulling out of tournaments went quite far... But as well as Nalbandian may receive a fine for pulling out of Hamburg other players that didn´t attend this tournament should receive that punish aswell. Read Federer, Nadal, Roddick, Hewitt, Agassi and so on.

Maybe the reason that turned on Lucas rage was the fact that you fell over Nalbandian and you didn´t say anything about the other players... But I´m sure that everybody on this forum would appreciate the same fines over those other players too Lucas!

patatriek: I didn´t read or heard any sort of news that Nalbandian decided not to play in Hamburg because her mother was ill. He just based his absence on personal reasons. He was asked yesterday in a local TV program about that and he just limited himself to say that he pulled out of Hamburg due to personal reasons but never mentioned the details. So I´m afraid that it seems quite unrealistic that Nalbandian may have given further information to a foreign TV broadcast. In case that information was transcripted somewhere in internet, may you send me a copy of that text please?. Thank you!

Due to the absence of players to some tournaments perhaps the calendar should be modified in order to leave one week free in between for Master Series tournaments. Nadal complained today that he had not time enough to recover after playing in Montecarlo, Barcelona and Rome. Maybe it´s time for the ATP to do something about that.

Enjoy the rest of the tournament!

i assumed this info was correct

btw, Lucas Freley i'm one of the people that think ATP should make it easier for players to pull out. players are human after all. huge fines are not going to help. remember the Norman case? he played the Tunis Challenger only avoid to fine of 2000euros. i am sure this happends more then you would think ......

Not necessarily, buddyholly. We can continue a discussion on any items connected to the tournament, but if anything gets out of hand, we moderators can try to chill things and ask people to give it a rest. But your suggestion to take any unreasonably long discussions to menstennisforums.com is well taken.

Not to irritate those who want no comments on this thread:
I am the one that heard the commentator said that DN withdrew due illness of his mother. Not sure about getting a transcript, but you could try.
It's the feed that the tennis channel uses: I believe for that match one commentator - the one who said about his mother - was British, and the other American.
In writing, I saw it stated that he did return to Argentina, so his mother could indeed be ill.
I wouldn't make it up that I heard commentator say this - my life is too full for that!
By the way, if DN receives a fine and the others (AA, AR, LH, RN, RF, etc) do not - that is wrong!!!!
