No and neither did Johansson. The alternates are in the other thread Toni. I put them there earlier today.

Maybe Verkerk is hoping for a Wild Card, or is he still injured?

Bad/sad news: Gustavo Kuerten, three times Roland Garros champion :HeadBang: won't play this year. He said he would like to be fit for the Grand Slam, and only would play if playing some tournament before. So...

I've read an article that says he wouldn't play because he would like to play another tournament before. However, he doesn't confirm:

http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/folha/espo ... 0690.shtml

I can't find the article I said before... I remember something about playing Sttutgart and another clay tournament after Rolland Garros, but there wont be able time to play at RG. He says he isn't thinking about retirement. He will come back. I don't know if he can't get good results, he 'll retire soon as expected (180 million people, at least, don't want it)

PLUS: one wild-card will go to an Australian player (and won't be Philipoussis):
http://www2.uol.com.br/tenisbrasil/diaa ... u27247.htm
Philly is not going to play the "tournament" which champion will receive the wild-card

Guga isn't going to play at Paris, as expected:

:(

He hired the physioterapist of Ronaldo (currently playing at Real Madrid); he said he wish to come back at July.

Jay: In the above Q list, Lammer & Troicki were direct entries. Was there a change in the list that bumped them to alternates (now IN)?

Coria out of RG and any tournament after that for 6 weeks he returns July 10 for Bastad or Gstaad tournaments. The excuse he give is tendonitis in his elbow but its just really to solve his various issues.

Does anyone know who won the Australian wildcard for the French Open.
There was a 4 man playoff. Arthurs beat Guiccionne and Healey beat Luczak but I haven't heard who won the wildcard between Arthurs and Healey

Haas will probably resign too - at least that's what the doctors are recommending. He is suffering from an acute pollen allergy. In his 1st round match in Hamburg he panicked and gave up.
The doctors said he should sleep as much as possible for the next 2 weeks...

After his victory in San Remo, I guess Patience will get one of the 2 remaining wild cards. The other one will go to Devilder, Faurel, Saulnier or Haehnel (probably to Devilder who won 2 challengers in Italy recently)

Lucky losers need even more luck

The rule regarding lucky losers in Grand Slam tournaments has changed this year. Previously, should a player in the tournament itself declare forfeit after the start of the qualifiers, the highest-ranked loser in the last qualifying round automatically got through. From now on, however, once the qualifiers have been completed, there will be a draw among the four highest-ranked losers of the final qualifying round to define the order in which lucky losers will replace those dropping out, should more than one player declare forfeit. If there are more than four forfeits, then the fifth-highest ranked player will go through, as was the case in the past.

Hewitt missing the French Open?

Postby fran » Tue May 23, 2006 2:58 pm

Hew dunnit?
Lleyton Hewitt may not be able to take part in this year's French Open. The former world number one sprained his ankle this Monday in a first round match at Pörtschach against Brazil's Marcos Daniel. Hewitt went down 3-6 6-3 7-6, and will have to wait for the results of an MRI to see how serious the injury is. "The initial signs are that the ligaments haven't been damaged," said Hewitt's manager Rob Aivatoglou. "We are cautiously optimistic, but we will have to wait for the results of the scan."

Sorry for this question...
Edgardo Massa is second in the MD ALT list, but he's playing the quallies. If 2 players withdraw (say... Hewitt and.... Nadal :) ) Is he in? (even if he loses, which i hope is not the case)

My understanding is that once quallies start, no more alternates get in, so Massa will have to qualify. (See smucav above). He could conceivably be a LL, but that is virtually impossible unless hardly anyone ranked above him wins in the next round, although strange things can happen, given the number of seeds that fell in the first round.
