It's almost sure that one of Acapulco's wild cards will be given to Santiago González, while another one could go either to Miguel Gallardo or Bruno Echagaray, the one that will be listed higher at the deadline.

Interesting to see Agassi choosing Dubai instead of his home tourney in Vegas. Apparently he enjoyed it so much last year that he wanted to come back, the bigger money Dubai offers shouldn´t be the deciding factor in Agassis case. In a schedule point of view it´s strange that players go from US to Dubai and then back to US for Indian Wells....

Yes
Tennis Players are obviously nowadays rather businessmen than sportsmen
I guess he gets a garantee to play there. Very strange ?

Maybe it's not very popular what I say now, but I'm more happy with Escude playing where he plays than Agassi playing wherever.
so sick of love songs.

Confirmed. Santiago González will take one of Acapulco's wildcards. The others are still undecided.

Doubles Intentions (Just an expected list that ATP informally knows; No commitment from the teams)

Acapulco: Fyrstenberg/Matkowski
Dubai: Bhupathi/Moodie, Hanley/Ullyett, Knowles/Nestor
Las Vegas: Aspelin/Perry, Bryan/Bryan, Goldstein/Thomas, Kerr/Parrott, Levinsky/Lindstedt

According to the doctors Nalbandian won't can practise the next 3 weeks so he won't play Acapulco .

Patrick McEnroe mentioned a few times during Davis Cup that Bob Bryan will be playing singles in Las Vegas. Unless he's entering the qualifying, he must have been offered a wild card.

Other players listed on the tournament website who aren't in directly are Mardy Fish & Mark Philippoussis.

Also, James Blake/Thomas Blake are listed as a doubles team. With Thomas Blake's rankings, they would need a wild card to play.

I'm sure Fish has. Philippoussis was on the site but since he pulled from Memphis with a back problem, maybe he won't play Vegas and maybe he'll decide early enough for a reallocation of the wild card.

smucav - my mistake probably. I guess ATP might have modified the initial list earlier and I did not notice. Monfils is listed in the initial list (cut at #68 ) and Mayer had gone to first-out. Now he is in. I made the changes above.

How can Murray be out of Las Vegas when he is still playing in Memphis?

sorry if this is a stupid question but i'm not sure of the ins and outs of all this.

i know olivier patience is out of acapulco qualies since he's in the semis in brazil and can't get an SE into Aca since it's a gold series. I'm not sure if he was on the alternates list for las vegas, but if so, is it possible he could get a special entry in there?

Jay, Roddick is still playing in Memphis too. Isn't there a rule that forbids withdrawing while you are still playing a tournament?

Fiona,

The only thing I can imagine is that Roddick has indeed withdrawn from Memphis itself. He is on today's schedule but may have withdrawn AFTER the schedule was made last night? .. [If I am not mistaken, I got news of the withdrawal from Las Vegas list late thursday; but I am not sure when exactly Roddick was scratched from the list]

I just cannot think of any other way it is possible ... I may be missing something still, I guess.

I think there has been a rule change. Acasuso did the same thing last week (withdrew from Costa do Sauipe before he played his last match in Buenos Aires).

It's in the 2006 rulebook, so unless they made some change after the book was printed it's still a rule. Perhaps the ATP has made a mistake posting Andy's withdrawal. They've made mistakes before (last October when JMG pulled from the Sacto Challenger, they pulled him from the Calabassas Challenger as well and it took them 3-4 days to correct the mistake).

But it's odd that the same thing happened last week with Acasuso. Are you saying you think he might still be playing? That'd be a pretty big error, consideirng how much the tourney is relying on him in their press and ads and stuff.

Seems that Henman may have a WC for Dubai...it has been added to his schedule! Yay!

No, I doubt that Andy will still play Vegas, too much tennis on his schedule so far this year and leading up to the next DC tie. I'm thinking its possible the ATP has made a mistake. A rule change would make sense tho, since another player on the alt list would get the spot instead of waiting until the main draw is made and giving the spot to a lucky loser.

These lists are 'in-house' and the limited number of internet tennis fans that know about them don't really affect the general tennis buying public. Even if it was posted on the TCO website, there would still be a fair number of people who showed up on Monday expecting Andy to be there. It would have to make the local newspaper, TV, and radio outlets for it to really sink in to the general public (I think).

Thomas Johansson out for four months with eye injury

Swede Thomas Johansson will be sidelined for four months after injuring his eye during a training session on Thursday.

Johansson, the world number 13, was preparing for Friday's doubles quarter-final at the Rotterdam World tournament with his playing partner Mario Ancic when a ball hit him in the eye.

The 2002 Australian Open winner had to have surgery at the Dijkzigt hospital in Rotterdam to repair a detached retina.

Tournament doctor Babette Pluim said Johansson would be out of action for four months and cannot fly for three weeks.

The fourth seeded Swede had already lost in the first round of the men's singles to Briton Tim Henman on Wednesday

What a surprise, Roddick lost last night just as Acasuso lost last week.
Do you think they knew they were going to lose which is why they withdrew early???

yeah, i thought the same thing

i also thought they may have tanked these matches, but looking at roddick's score i don't think he did. can't imagine he would want to tank a match like that.

i'm no roddick fan, but he didnt throw the match. u don't tank a match 7 6 in the third. there must have been a rule change and there should have been. look at andy murray. he's not used to playing matches the whole week on the tour. he won that tourney last week and entered this week. even though he got a wednesday start he was still far from sharp in his matches this week. if a player feels he's deep in the current tourney and will be too fatiqued to play the following week, let him withdraw early so that an alternate gets the spot instead of a lucky loser, which should (in theory) slightly improve the quality of the field.

Acapulco :Del Potro (Wild Card) replaced Kuerten (Wild Card)

"Siento mucho no ir a Acapulco.
