Goldstein

Postby jmsx521 » Tue Nov 08, 2005 9:22 am

I am surprised that Goldstein isn't playing. He usually wins all the challengers he plays.

He actually has the record of all times on the number of titles on the USTA Pro Circuit (Challengers and Futures in USA): 26 in total with 12 in singles and 14 in doubles! That´s why they call him the "Crash Davis" of Tennis! and here is his answer to that:

“I like being called the ‘Crash Davis’ of tennis,” said Goldstein, who earned $10,800 along with the Boston title. “It means that I have won a lot of matches, a lot of titles, and have been out here for a long time doing what I love.“

Crash Davis

Postby jmsx521 » Tue Nov 08, 2005 10:40 am

12 singles challenger titles in the US: great result! I saw him live this year beating Karlovic in Delray Beach. What about in other countries? Is Crash Davis a comment that means he can't make it to Davis Cup, or if else, then I don't get what it means.

Davis was a fictional character who hit the most home runs in minor league baseball history, portrayed by actor Kevin Costner in the movie, "Bull Durham."

Only one tournament this week???

I remember a challenger in Mauritius Island same week last year... Doesn't it exist anymore?

Its the week before this one this year.

Goldstein isn't playing this one because he doesn't need to, he's safely in the Top 100 and assured direct entry into the Aus Open. This tournament is mostly for guys who need a last chance to gain points before the Dec 5th cutoff, or the qualie cut-off on the 19th. Yay, play here and get exactly 4 weeks off before the 2006 season begins.

If Goldstein had played the upcoming Orlando challenger, and lost early, would it have hurt his chances for direct entry in to the Australian Open?

The Mauritius Challanger and Reunion are different. Mauritius would have been week 48 at the same time as Orlando.

Its too bad they are not having it this year. Its hard to go all the way there (from pretty much any place in the world except sub-Saharn Africa) for one tournament. Back-to-back tourneys makes the trip a lot easier.

It is a beautiful place to play tennis.

Time for Q and Main Draw needed

Postby jmsx521 » Mon Nov 21, 2005 11:18 pm

If the main draw starts on Tuesday, does the qualifying begin on Sunday (time?) and end on Monday (time?)?

Thanks.

yes, the qualifying will start on sunday morning ...

the qualifying can finish on monday avo, if the tournament director decides to play 2 rounds of qualifying on sunday or monday. or they might play the last rounds of qualifying on tuesday mornin.

this said, there might be a lot of byes in the qualie draw, maybe they'll only have to play a few qualie matches ;)

For a USTA $50k event this is VERY POOR information (or lack of) - The country that put man on the moon they should be ashamed!
