Call It A Comeback???

30 year old Gaston Gaudio won the tunis challenger this past week as a 700+ ranked wildcard. tunis is part of the tretorn series (top level challengers with $100,000+ prizefunds). he beat top seeded jarkko nieminen (world rank 50) in the semis and frederico gil (ranked 75th) in the finals. it will be interesting to see if he continues to improve and how far back up the rankings he can go.

he received a wild card into the french open, and has a decent draw. he plays stepanek in the 1st round. he's seeded 18th, but clay isn't his best surface. quite an opportunity for gaudio, as winning even a couple matches could greatly improve his ranking.

Yeah, nice comeback. Let's see how he will perform in the French Open, the seeding is quite good for him. We shouldn't expect too much from him right now, probably he will need a few months to build up his form. Winning a tournament like this is a good indicator for his current strength but he has to be constant to significantly improve his ATP ranking.

Gaudio is no mean player . After all he is a former French Open Champion. But still, great performance from him to win a title against someone who was at one time ranked as high as 13 in the world.
