Steve, instead of just deleting posts, can't we do something to delete accounts and ban IPs?

I delete at least ten posts a day, but the same posts are there the very next day. :S

Just today I deleted a lot of Britney Spears and Shakira porn movies spams.
The "forum members" were Morstertened and Ermojoup.
By the way, I'm fighting with them, they are posting right now.
It would be nice if they were banned. One of them got the "cool newbie"...

Yes, I delete about five spam messages everyday.
It would be great if we could just ban these spamming robots. :KooKoo:

All users with letters like "ed", "mo", "dick" are spamming bots.

Please... give us the power to ban IPs. I can see usernames and predict if they will spam.

They are taking over this brilliant place. Do something....

True.

Cases like this are pathetic:

http://www.stevegtennis.com/forum/profi ... ile&u=4472

In its Occupation field, it is mentioned that it is a bot. :KooKoo:
We have had two or three spam posts from it and it keeps on coming back. Loads of other such cases.

Steve, please ban this IP: 203.121.69.153
A lot of "posters" in this IP. I've already deleted hundreds of spams of this IP.

Yes, Eddie... we should ban that IP, look at this
modcp.php?mode=ip&p=22246&t=1634
Edit: The link doesnt work, but take any of the britney spams ans touch IP, you'll see...

All from the same IP, and today ive already deleted 20 or so.
Also, if someone was curious enough, is Britney really sucking? LOL!
Whe should ban britney too!

Banning users delete all his posts? if that's the case it would be great, or at least a delete all posts from this user option. I've emailed Steve to encourage him to read this topic.

PS: I will not delete more SPAM today just to show the IP thing.

Sure, compile a list of offending IPs and I will add them to the banned list.
The problem with that is if you ban one, they will just come back under another. But its worth a shot.

Yeah, these spam bots are really eating us up. I also looked into mods for deleting all of a users posts. But the links I saw were for older versions of phpbb.

And thanks to all our Spaminators! Good job battling this. Sorry its so overwhelming sometimes. We'll see if we can try some things and get it under control more.

There are a couple of more drastic things we could do like eliminating guest posting and requiring a visual code to post. But that last one should be a last resort.

Can we start applying the visual code to registering?

I'll take a look to phpbb and these mods next year, i didn't read about it, but if it's all open source we should make it work.

I for one wish you merry christmas and a happy new year to all! spammers not included :)

Is there a way to close the archive entries forums and still these open to see? If it's possible, it will be less 3 (2004-2006) forums to clean (but then they will post in the others...)
Maybe if it were a forum "post your spam here". Is Maria Sharapova's links allowed in the girls section?
Nice Christmas, Chanukkah and Happy New Year to you all!

I see this question is also being discussed on the Announcements/Site News forums
http://www.stevegtennis.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2044
Kasia says it's a tough and maybe a lost battle. The spammers are posting a lot these days.
I'm afraid it's not a good idea, but maybe if it were possible to desable links. I don't know if it's possible to Steve manage it to the phpbb and is a shame we can't post links. An alternative would be typing "dot" instead of ".". the link above would be:
www(dot)stevegtennis(dot)com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2044
maybe just one dot would be necessary. You can copy and paste or just look at the adress while typing it. We might have new adresses at the bar :)
The links of the tennis members (everyone but the spammers) were always trustful and helpful. It's really a shame what these spammers are doing to this great forum.
And making a mea-culpa, we should discuss more at the forums, we are too shy. Let's post more than the bastards! :Computer: :NoSpam:

Yeah, I've just spent a lot of time deleting spam posts on the results forum where I'm a mod even though I know it's useless, but I just can't stand them :KooKoo:
I'm not good at all that Internet stuff, but there must be a way to deal with spamming :?

Please...... Could Daryl or someone else email Steve again with the suggestion of locking the 2004, 2005 and 2006 entry lists fora?

By the way, we spaminators can divide the work between us.... we can monitor separate sections. For example, I can look after two sections, Eddie V can look after two sections and so on.
The work will be less if we become a bit organised.

Your thoughts?

I agree with you Morgan Z. A temporary solution would be to lock tournament entries 2004, 2005 and 2006. And as there are so many spams per day that would be good to divide the working areas.

But I would think on finding a solution to end with this problem.

This is my idea:
Change the way to participate in the forum. For example, a first step would be to turn it compulsory to register to post messages. Then before posting your first three messages you should send the context of your post to a regular moderator or spaminator who will post the message of this new member. After checking that this new member is not a spammer they can start posting normally.

That's a good solution, I guess. :)

Hopefully Steve will read this soon.

Fran, I agree with the not letting guests post, the second part.. is a little complicated. Now that we have the visual code registration, the spam should go down, we also need to clean the user database (or at least block some users) but this is a task only moderators can do.

Bye

Edit: Ok, i already read the discussion in Announcements section.

The end of spammers

Postby fran » Sun Jan 07, 2007 4:57 pm

I think I took it too personal :-). I have a friend who is running a similar php webpage and I guess these advices will help to end with spammers ;) :

1) they should be entering validating text...that's one.

2) Also, you should enter a valid email...get a message to your mail box and then validate from there...

3 ) Third, IF there´s STILL too much spam...the moderators or admininistrator would validate all new accounts...you can tell right away because they'll have a spam url link in their profile before you allow them to post.

In this link you will find the steps to be followed:

www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=427 ... tin+format

Cheers!

I've deleted a lot of spam messages in the last few days.

This forum needs more posts by real members and less spam. ;)

Ok, I think I have FINALLY cleaned if not all if it, then at least most of it.

Perhaps the ideas of getting rid of all these different sections is best. I will see what I can do over the next week or so. So if you see the board shut down, you know I'm working on it. :)
