Tennis Masters Series London

Postby etb76 » Mon Aug 23, 2004 9:52 am

Since there is such controversy over the quick turnaround between the clay court season and the grass season, and the grass season is so short anyways, don't you think it would be a good idea to have a Masters Series on grass. There can be an extra week between the French and Wimbledon. They can keep the grass court warmups that are in place and change the Stella Artois tourney at Queens Club into TMS London. How can there be no Masters events on grass? Anyway, I seriously doubt this will ever happen.

Grass TMS

Postby Rob & Stephen » Mon Aug 23, 2004 10:22 am

The LTA and FFT are looking at ways that they can expand the grass court season on the ATP tour, but the major problem is that they would have to shift either Roland Garros or Wimbledon in the calendar, and the ATP are not happy with that.
There have been proposals for the following calendar (only Roland Garros and grass court tourns named):
Roland Garros (week 20-1)
Halle (week 22)
Queen's Club (week 23)
s'Hertogenbosch (week 24)
Wimbledon (week 25-6)
Newport (week 27)

But as i said before the ATP poo-pood it as they did not want to lose either a week of American hard court or of European clay court seasons, as this calendar sugests.
The LTA is still trying but is getting no where as the ATP doesn't like them at the mo. [-X
Ta ta for now

How about Halle instead for the grass TMS, drop Hamburg and add Houston as a clay court event to generate more American interest on the red clay. My TMS schedule as follow:

US - Indian Wells, Miami, Houston(Clay)
Europe - Monte Carlo, Rome, Halle(Grass)
North America - Canada, Cincy
Europe - Madrid, Paris
Asia - China (Tennis Masters Cup)

We have two north american hard court swings.

The ausopen should be scheduled later and either miami or indian wells should be held in australia/asia.

Add one more week in between roland garros and wimbledon and make the middle week a master series tournament.

Does there really have to be only 9 masters series? What's the argument against having a 10th? You're not adding a tournament but just converting one of the tournaments into a masters series.

Also, how important is the indoor season at the end of the year.
