Three members of the University of Miami men's tennis team wrapped up the first day of competition with wins in singles play, while two of UM's doubles tandems turned in victories against South Florida at the Gator Invitational Friday afternoon.
Leading the Hurricane contingent was sophomore Josh Cohen - ranked 76th in the country - who downed USF's Federico Barton in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 and junior Tim Krebs, who also won in straight sets, upending the Golden Bulls Dillon Brozyna, 6-3, 6-0.
UM newcomer Ryan Waits also turned in a win in singles play, defeating Matias Sigal, 6-4, 6-2.
Cohen, along with teammate Eric Hechtman, pulled out a close victory in doubles play, overtaking USF's Barton and Brozyna, 9-7 while fellow Hurricanes, Tim Krebs and Neil Sehgal defeated Mark Gattiker and Juan Carlos Gomez, 8-3.
