A bunch of changes today with some 12 withdrawals and 7 lucky loser spots clearing up .. The cuts have dropped to 188, 294, 297 and 286 respectively for Cordoba, Zell, Montauban, Mantova. As usual, I don't plan to do this all the time, but I had a little time today, so I thought it will be useful to give an update for all of you to see how things move around during the hectic time just before the weekend.

By the way, I think some more spots may clear based on whoever remains in the Wimbledon list as of tomorrow for second week (any doubles players, surprises in the singles draw etc).

Cordoba
2 SE spots cleared.
OUT: Peya, Bogomolov
IN: DeChaunac, Udomchoke, Cakl, Mertinak
NEXT-IN: Chiudinelli, DeVoest, R.Delgado, Thomann

Zell
2 SE spots cleared.
OUT: Kralert, Wessels, and from Alternate list -
Traykov, Genaro-Martinez, Ager, Gimeno-Tarver, Azzaro, Sela, Tuskar, Moraru
IN: Bardoczky, Gabashvili, Qureshi, Costa
NEXT-IN: Kubot, Mazarakis, Armando, Georgini, Snobel

Montauban
2 SE spots cleared yet.
OUT: Lopez, Portas, Silva, Vanek, and from the Alternate list -
Fraile, Bardoczky, Gabashvili, Traykov, Genaro-Martinez, Gimeno-Tarver,
Azzaro, Tuskar, Moraru,
IN: Enev, Genaro-Martinez, Qureshi, Sela, Kubot, Mazarakis
NEXT-IN: Armando, Georgini, Snobel, Stoliarov, Lammer

Mantova
1 SE spots cleared.
OUT: Veronelli, Dellatorre, Navarro-Pastor, Hantschk, and from Alternate list -
Enev, Bardoczky, Gabashvili, Traykov, Genaro-Martinez, Sela, Marcaccio
IN: Ager, Gimeno-Tarver, Qureshi, Azzaro, Tuskar
NEXT-IN: Moraru, Luzzi, Armando, Georgini, Snobel, Stoliarov

Qureshi will soon be dropped from two of the three lists. I expect at least another 7-8 players from waiting lists to enter main draw by tomorrow. The same names are in most of the challenger waiting lists.

Players who are in various draws and have not lost by end of play today at Wimbledon will be taken out from the challenger lists. So far I see Stepanek at Montauban, and Knowle and Cermak at Zell to be cut out. There are still Bennetau, Ramirez-Hidalgo, Mahut and Gimseltob (all four in the Cordoba list) and Kubot (Montauban) scheduled to play today. If they win, they will be off the lists by later today.

So, some 4 to 6 more spots will get cleared in the challenger draws by later today.

OK, The players remaining active in Wimbledon and will need to be taken off the list are,

Benneteau (from Cordoba)
Mahut (Cordoba)
Gimelstob (Cordoba)
Stepanek (Montauban)
Kubot (Montauban)
Knowle (Zell)
Cermak (Zell)

By my count 10 spots are about to be cleared up in the challengers ...

In addition, I just found that a few of the players immediately following in the next-in lists at these challengers have now committed to play ITF events. They will be taken off the alternate lists as well .. Moraru, Berlecq, Marach, Minar, Svarc, Neuntiebel, etc, ...

Marcos is now OUT from Motauban, replaced by Armando.

The cuts are all going to fall quite a bit, from what I can see.

Actually a correction -- I checked the rules once more. It turns out that the players who have not lost by TOMORROW (saturday) at wimbledon are the ones who will be taken out. Not today.

We will have to see which of the 7 doubles players listed above will be on the schedule tomorrow at Wimbledon and who loses. If they lose tomorrow, they can still play the challengers next week ... So their names won't be cut out till tomorrow!

All four challengers have qualifying sign-in deadline at 9 pm SATURDAY, unlike the normal Friday night. The main draw entry lists remain active till that point. Once teh qualifying draw is made, the entry list has no meaning. All withdrawals and no-shows from that point in the main draw list become lucky loser spots.

This stuff is quite a complicated procedure, but ATP does get it done quite correctly (one of the things they do indeed stay on top of!)

Cermak is definitely out because his XD match is not on schedule today.

Jayakris, I think you're not correct... alternates can be placed in MD until the qualifying start, which is Sunday morning in this case...

Partly correct, nitsansh. Alternates can be placed in the main draw still sunday start time, but those are alternates who are in the qualifying draw made tonight though, not any alternates from the entry list. The entry list is basically done with once the qualifying draw is made an hour or so before that they finialize a main draw list based on latest available info on who all has said he is not coming, and who all are taken out. If there is any names withdrawing after that, they take the highest alternate player who is already on site and signed into the qualifying draw to main draw by Sunday start of play. That is my understanding.

Looks like all seven names listed above at Wimbledon will be taken off from the lists, because ity is atotal rain washout at Wimbledon today!

I guess it is all in the hands of the supervisors at the challenger sites. No official ATP updates of any further withdrawals, as far as I know.

But all together a minimum 10 extra spots must be cleared from the lists at the 4 challengers in the next couple of hours. How excatly the supervisors decide which players form the alternate lists to send into the main draw, I really don't know. I suppose they will use the latest official lists (as above from yesterday), look at who has told each of them to be NOT coming, and then finalize a main draw list. Perhaps they can phone each other too.

I hear that the Cordoba Cut is now down to Uros Vico (which is about 4-5 spots below what we have above). I suppose the three guys from Wimbledon are now cut out...

No idea about the last minute moves at Mantova, Montauban and Zell. We will wait for the qualies draws by tomorrow.

Technically, one is not allowed to pull out and then play at the challengers. There may be some medical exceptions though - and I am not sure how they handle it.

some main draws out already

ZELL
Pescosolido, Knowle, Qureshi OUT
Mazarakis, Lammer, Mlynarik IN

MONTAUBAN
Bachelot, Kubot, Mazarakis, Armando OUT
Todero, Vik, Goellner, Mankad IN

Watching the alternates who got in at zell and montauban, I'm guessing
Luzzi, Giorgini, Snobel, Stoliarov (perhaps) Viloca got in in Mantova, but the main draw is'nt out there yet. Same for Cordoba

Are we ever going to see the singles draw at Cordoba. Still no idea who all are playing there... The official website, http://www.tennispozoblanco.com/ has posted the doubles draw, but still no singles draw. Neither has any of the ATP sites posted it. Not even an order of play for Tuesday to see who plays whom.

Yeah, it is finally out at Cordoba. #272 Andres Pedroso was the last entry, it turns out...

It seems they really made the draw only Monday evening ...
