Vancouver WC

Postby Taxmanpat » Wed Jul 27, 2005 3:35 pm

One of the WCs was given to Philip Bester, according to www.vanopen.com

He's in Granby now and doing pretty good. (I was there last night... very nice tournament)

I wouldn't be surprised if Sanjin Sandovich got a WC as well, since he'S from that part of the country.

Edited to add: for Vancouver, of course... I typed a little too fast there.

So, a big drop of 7-8 spots into the ALT in the last few hours at Timisoara. This is it, for the final lists everywhere, except Vancouver which could still change for a couple more hours...

I would think he can get an SE at Segovia. It is not easy to say though. There are too many parameters in the SE decisions, like who else is interested in the SE spot, etc .. Then there is the regional priorities on which other challenger's SF counts for any given challenger. Also, one can get an SE only if he could not make the initial direct entry at the given challenger - sometimes that makes it confusing for us to figure out who would have asked for an SE where! ..

So, wait till sunday night and we should have the segovia main draw to make sure that Andrew got an SE. He probably will, I guess.

I take that back. Prpic and Vecek are also in the semis at Valladolid - so they should have higher priority for the Segovia SEs, as both are in the alt list there. Andrew may have to look for Trani or somewhere for an SE.

Interesting question ..

Well, it turns out that Arvind Parmar, who was not in the list we had seen, IS in the draw at Segovia! ..

So, I assume what happened was that Jamie Delgado was in the list originally, probably wrongly, instead of Parmar. It must be some mistake somewhere, because Jamie was in the US and probably would not have entered to go just for a week to Spain, while Parmar was already at Valladolid and there was no reason for him not to be in the list.

I assume this was all figured out only on the last day and then they allowed Jamie to play qualies at Washington, and Parmar to come into the draw when Dick Norman withdrew .. So, none of this showed up in the official lists - but ATP seems to have got it right in the end, I guess. Poor Berrer probably had a complaint as he was the next-in at Segovia, but no damage done, as he qualified in anyway!

All just pure speculation on my part. This is the only thing that makes sense.

Thanks for trying to answer my question Jay :) as far as I know Dick never had plans to play @ Segovia, so maybe his name was a mistake in the list :? we'll never know for sure I guess ;)
