Most top players are taking a break this week. Only 8 of the top-20 are playing: 6 at Stuttgart, 1 at Indy (Roddick) and 1 at Amersfoort (Puerta - I suppose he gets money to come here).
Is that normal for these tournaments or the effect of Davis cup the previous week?

Wildcards in Amersfoort for Dennis van Scheppingen and Martin Verkerk.

Verkerk however is doubtful as he is still not fully recovered from his shoulder injury.

I would have expected Indy to take a bigger hit due to Davis Cup, but several who will be playing DC in Europe (Ancic, Mirnyi, Hrbaty, Beck) entered Indy (rather than Stuttgart). Maybe it's the lure of the U.S. Open Series bonus challenge: players like Kiefer did very well last year just by playing all the events.

Mirnyi is not playing Davis cup. The other 3 you mentioned do.
The matches are:
Russia vs France
Australia vs Argentina
Slovakia vs Netherlands
Croatia vs Romania
plus some play-offs in group 1 and 2nd round in group 2.

I suppose those European players who go to Indy favour hardcourt over clay, or prefer a weaker field...
It's interesting that Croats are going to the US series and skipping their home tournament in Umag the following week (I don't suppose they fly over the Atlantic for just one tourney)

Good to see Peter Luczak entered for three tournaments this week, he is truly omnipresent.

It is out and BD will post it very soon. I guess he is taking it easy because Huhtamaki had already posted the unofficial list in the open thread a day or two back.

yes, sorry for that. I'm having my exams (2 don 3 to go :|) and I don't have that much time left. Today Social Filosophy, damn that was heavy, :KooKoo: but we're getting off topic :) I'll try to post them later today, or at least the alternates, since the entry list itself is already posted by Huhtamaki as Jay said above.

i have one more exam to go (out of 4)... polish history with law history...
and for not to be out of topic, i regret there's such a tournament like in Indianapolis because players (one player... i mean...) with lower ranking may leave Europe for USA hardcourts b'cause they have big chances to enter the main draw. and perhaps they won't come back to Europe for the rest of clay court season (Sopot, i mean) :Dejected:
so sick of love songs.

Indianapolis Wild card to Andre Agassi (Donald Young already has a wild card):
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050621/SPORTS/506210391/1004/SPORTS

Mark Philippoussis & Mardy Fish have asked for wild cards.

No, according to the Stuttgart site Novak Djokovic will play qualies. Other names in qualies are (according to Stuttgart site):
Nicolas Lapentti
Fernando Vicente
Albert Portas
Olivier Patience
Simon Greul
Tobias Summerer

Jay, do you know what Moya and Garcia-Lopez are doing this week? They are both playing Bastad at the moment, and will play Umag the week after Stuttgart. I find it very strange that they won't play Stuttgart! Do you know what's going on?

WC to Fish at Indi ...

By the way, I have corrected the Indi entry list. As they are doing that silly experiment with a 32-size qualifying draw for only 4 Q spots, two more are direct entries (Enqvist, Ryderstedt) than what BD initially posted. There will be FIVE wildcards, and so two more are yet to be decided.

Why would Lapentti be on the qualifying when he's first alternate for Amersfoort and will surely benefit from a pullout there, and if not there, he would surely benefit from pullouts in Stuttgart?

Why take the risk if nobody pulls out?! Then it´s better to be in the qualifying list and pull out from that when he gets in!

Tommy Haas says on his Homepage that the next tournament he will play is the canadian open in montreal. So he seems to be out of Indianapolis.

Something is still askew in the Indy list as there are now 49 in the list (two line #45s).

Thanks about the Galimberti info (it was me asking).

I find it weird he's not on it. Will see later if he's in the qualies draw.
He's scheduled to play doubles with Bracciali, so I don't think he'll not try to play singles too.

In the end Vince didn´t get a WC to Tampere, during Bastad he thought he was going there, he got a WC to the Amersfoort qualifying instead, interesting!
