Would anyone happen to know the alternates for Los Angeles? I know that both Kendrick and Bogomolov want to play there and it would be nice if neither had to qualify...

Also, I'd read a while back that Donald Young had earned a wild card when he won the Eaaster Bowl. Is that confirmed anywhere or will the tournament announce it some time soon?

Thanks.

Agassi probably won't play LA. Maybe Roddick will take a wild card.

I'm ticked off that the cut-off for L.A. stands at 89 right now. I guess if the D.C. tourney hadn't been moved then things might have been different. My guess is that the entry list was made when Alex Bogomolov was around 116 so I'm hoping he's near the top of the alternate list. It's hard to remember before July 2002 when I was just happy to go see Live Tennis played no matter who was entered. This will be my fourth year going to the tournament but if Alex doesn't play the happiness will be next to none.

As for Robert Kendrick, he's been holding steady in the 140s for months now so he'll either be at the top of the quallies or a middle seed. This cut-off is likely to screw him if he wanted to play L.A.

But my main concern, till July 10th when I go to quallies, will be Alex's status 8-[

I don't think Andy will take a wildcard for LA, he's playing team tennis somewhere around that time, and with the Olympics that would be an awful lot of tennis leading up to the USO. Interesting to see if Agassi withdraws...

Tommy Haas is on the tournament website for LA, but not on the entry list. I wonder if he's used up his protected rankings and now has to get wildcards until he can get his ranking up.

Ferrero has asked for a wildcard to Stuttgart, according to the Tournament site.

Alternates for Los Angeles:

1. Benneteau, Julien FRA 92
2. Llodra, Michael FRA 94
3. Elseneer, Gilles BEL 100
4. Lu, Yen-Hsun TPE 101
5. Rusedski, Greg GBR 103
6. Moodie, Wesley RSA 104
7. Carlsen, Kenneth DEN 105
8. Mahut, Nicolas FRA 107
9. Gimelstob, Justin USA 107 (inj. protected)
10. Vacek, Jan CZE 108
11. Hernych, Jan CZE 114
12. Haas, Tommy GER 115
13. Sanguinetti, Davide ITA 116
14. Bogomolov Jr., Alex USA 119
15. Morrison, Jeff USA 120

Cut out Lu and Sanguinetti who are in the Granby CH main draw, Mahut who is in the Manchester CH. Bogomolov is 11th in the list, which may become 9th if special exempts go unused. He would hopefully get a wildcard..

I certainly hope so!! He definitely deserves one. OK, so I probably sound like an idiot but he doesn't need to go through the quallies :x

I'm hitting desperation mode. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can post any update on the list for Los Angeles. The tournament has the possibility of going to hell for me in one fell swoop.

Well, as I said before I will withhold info on any big names withdrawing until I see it at the public websites like the ATP website or the tournament website (I don't have to; but it is just a courtesy extended to ATP and the tournament). No, Agassi has NOT withdrawn :)

LA Mercedes Cup

OUT: 4 names (withheld for now)
IN: Benneteau, Elseneer, Rusedski, Moodie (Llodra and Lu from the alternate list are not playing).
NEXT: Carlsen, Mahut, Gimelstob, Vacek

Message me above if you need to check on any specific name.

Amersfoort ATP

OUT: Pless
IN: Mutis
NEXT IN: Garcia, Peya, Almagro, Pescosolido, Lisnard, Thomann, Norman, Guzman, Zib, Calatrava, Ventura, Monaco... etc

Stuttgart ATP

OUT: ElAynaoui, Calleri, Kucera and one other name.
IN: Lopez, Ulihrach, Garcia, Peya
NEXT: Heuberger, Almagro, Pescosolido, Lisnard, Thomann, Norman, Guzman, Zib, Calatrava, Ventura, Monaco, Luczac, Falla, Varlet ...

Amersfoort and Los Angeles have 2 SE spots each to be released. Stuttgart has no SE spots.

Would I be right in guessing that Alex Bogomolov is next in after Vacek? That's assuming that Haas is getting one of the WCs.

Thanks for your help, Jay. I do appreciate it.

OK, with Carlsen & Sanguinetti losing plus Gimelstob pulling out of doubles today...Does this pretty much give Bogie the SE when he wins tomorrow? :D

Los Angeles:
2 SE spots still to be cleared.
OUT: Two more names (withheld again, but Agassi is still there! :))
IN: Carlsen, Vacek (Mahut and Gimelstob from ALT list not playing)
NEXT: Hernych, Haas, Sanguinetti, Bogomolov, Morrison, Lee

Amersfoort:
No change. 2 SE spots to be cleared.

Stuttgart
OUT: Salzenstein, Volandri
IN: Heuberger, Almagro
NEXT: Pescosolido, Lisnard, Thomann, Norman...

Looks like Bogomolov will almost surely make it in the end, at Los Angeles...

They sometimes keep a player in both the draws. That sometimes happens because a player makes a draw that was not his first preference, thinking he won't make the other one. They may have even bought a travel ticket to go to the second preference tournament, etc etc. The ATP folks actually do a lot of work from what I understand, such as calling up players and figuring out what is going on. In such cases, the ATP office may keep a name in two lists for a while. Once it is past evening time Friday in Europe, basically it is up to the ATP tournament supervisors to talk to each other and move the draw cuts down based on who they know is coming to their tournaments.

Not sure if that is Almagro's situation, but I have seen this happen on Fridays. A couple of weeks back we had Aisam Qureshi on three challenger lists when the ATP' official lists froze sometime on friday. Only the ATP supervisors at the three challengers really knew where he was going, because he made the lists only thursday night or something and he himself probably wasn't sure where he was going.

Amersfoort:

The second SE released
OUT: Almagro
IN: Lisnard, Thomann
NEXT: Ventura, Monaco, Luczak

Stuttgart:

OUT: Santoro, Garcia, Thomann
IN: Norman, Guzman, Zib
NEXT: Ventura, Monaco, Luczak

Los Angeles:
No change.

So, the Almagro mystery has been solved. He will be at Stuttgart ..

Los Angeles:

One SE spot cleared. One to go.
IN: Haas
NEXT: BOGOMOLOV!!! (Sanguinetti not coming), Morrison, Lee ..

No changes at the other two places, where the qualifying draws should be all made by now.

So, Bogomolov should be in as the SE or last entry or whatever, I think.

I don't think there's a flight out of Newport (or Providence) till tomorrow morning. I guess it's time to accept Bogie not being here :( :( .

Thanks Jay!!

Not that I know of :S

Is it normal for them to not give the SE out till they know for sure he'll miss the quallie sign-in?

None of the other 4 guys in Newport are on the quallie list, are they?

DUH...I'm being so emotional that I wasn't thinking. In the likelihood that the SE gets cleared...Bogie is in either way

Unless he pulls at the last minute. 8-[

:) :) .. OK, Hug accepted over the internet .. Don't tell my wife (if you are a woman) or my friends (if you are a man)

.. but seriously, one reason why I decided to do some updates here if I have some time to kill, was in the hope that somebody at ATP would read it and start to understand that there are people who follow so many of the other players avidly and would really like to know the lower-end players making into these tournaments. Not just the top guys important for the ELITE crowd at these tennis events (who show up from Friday, and think that people other than the Agassis and Roddicks out there don't play tennis worth watching; the ones who never move away from their nice center court seats other than to pee or buy a Cappuccino). ATP has been misrable in giving information to fans and doing something to get fannies in the seats for the matches involving the "lesser players". And don't even start me on a discussion on their cluelessness on what to do with doubles .....

The funny thing is that we have had people who were so interested in the Weiners and Bogomolovs, but nobody particularly bothered here about the big names who withdrew at LA (whom I did not mention, as I fear that ATP's reasoning to keep the entry list change info away from the fans is to avoid telling who withdrew - can't think of any other reason) .. ATP is doing a better job than say 4-5 years bacxk, but they still do not show a proper understanding of the psychology of SPORTS FANS; they only understand the psychology of the elite weekend crowd (which is their cash cow, while they continue to miss the point that there are so many more SPORTS FANS who would come to this sport if they are given reasons to follow tennis - the best individual athletic sport in the world).

Do you think Sluiter can reach the final again?

He got a good preparation in Hilversum, so I think he can do it.
If he plays in the Netherlands he always plays well.

I'm back from holliday and updated the lists, which are final now.
For those who are interrested, the 6 withdrawals, who were withheld at LA, are :
Hewitt, Nalbandian, Kuerten, Malisse, Ancic and Gambill.
Perhaps interresting to know who were the first 4, and the latest 2? But for that, we'll have to count on the great Jay :)

Sorry, forgot to respond earlier. The list had come out last monday. You can find it at http://www.leggmasontennisclassic.com/p ... ?p=players

If you need to know where any specific player stands in the alternates list, message me above. Otherwise we will wait till we get close to the qualies weekend to start a thread to update the alternate list and mnain draw withdrawals, etc.
