The next 2 players on the entry list can see themselves in as SE will only be used for Wimbledon finalists... you don't really expect someone below 127 (for Newport) to get to the final...

Unless I'm missing his name it doesn't look like Robby plans on defending his title in Newport :o . That's gonna be a hit to his ranking I would think.

Ginepri will lose 160 ranking pts on July 12th if he doesn't play this week... but he has allready earned 145 pts by reaching 4th round at Wimbledon, so it's about even...

Who is candidate for SE??

It can't be Ancic, he's ranked high enough to get in...
Arthurs is at Newport...

I guess the SE is Knowle (#203 on May 24).
He's into the SF at Wimbledon... is that enough to earn the SE at Bastad?

I think Ancic could still aply for the alternate spot although his ranking is/was high enough,no?!?

2 possibilities :

1. SE are available for all (even not-signed) players (not on the entry list/alternate list)
2. SE are not available for players who already could have gotten in thanks to their ranking.

I personally think it's the first. Any thoughts?

greetings

PS: I don't think a doubles performance is good enough to get a special exempt-spot. Not sure though...

My understanding is that SE is granted to players who were on the qualifying list for a tournament but couldn't make it because they were playing in another tournament at the same time.
Players who didn't register for a tournament can get in only as wild card.
Normally, the SF is played on Saturday on the same day as 1st round of qualifying, but in this case it's scheduled for Friday, so it's possible for Knowle to lose tommorrow afternoon and rush to Sweden to play qualifying on Saturday...

In any case, doubles players do NOT qualify for SE. Being in the doubles SF does not make Knowle a candidate. Otherwise some doubles specialist or other will be taking the SEs and playing singles at every event (one round of singles pays more than what you get for an SF in doubles)! ...

Nitsansh is right that you have to be on the alternates list for consideration for special exempt entry. That means you have to have entered six weeks ahead for the ATP tour events. Can't add the name in later. SEs are not available for those who would have made the draw (had they entered) either. So Ancic can play only through a wildcard if he wanted.

I don't know why they held back that SE spot. Anyway, they have now released it, and Vassalo-Arguello has gone into the main draw now at Bastad ...

I guess Robert Kendrick just missed the main draw for Newport because I see he's in the quallie draw.

Yes, Golmard was the last entry at Newport. Weiner and Kendrick were the top two seeds in qualies and both have advanced to Q2 today.. 3rd seed Taino fell to Rajeev Ram and the 4th seed Neimeyer lost to Rettenmaier.

The Newport main draw wildcards went to Gimelstob, Delic and Vahaly.

Here is the draw:

http://www.atptennis.com/posting/2004/315/mds.pdf

I don't think ATP site posts links to the draws till monday. I guessed the link because I knew the tournament number (well it is there in the fact sheets posted at SteveG's tournament page) ... Anyway, SteveG himself has posted the draw now.
