Question to Jay, who had much informations about withdrawals last week.
Do you know of any withdrawals for Not/Rosm or Wimb Quali's?
thanks in advance

Surprisingly not a single withdrawal so far friom Wimbledon qualies. Actually Michael Russell was taken out of the Wimbledon Q (he probably decided not to use the injury protected rank for that event) immediately they released the initial list itself I think. You already have Delatorre in the list. He entered after Russel was taken out.

No withdrawlas from the Wimb main draw either. The Wimbledon qualifying cut may not fall below 285 or so this year, at this rate!

Bogdanovic from the Wimb qualies has been given a main draw wildcard. So I guess Emin Agaev (#255) is now in the qualifying list. Strangely, they still have not given a wildcard to Arvind Parmar (GBR), the highest ranked Briton in the qualies list. I can only think of Parmar's Indian ethnicity as the reason why LTA has not given him a wildcard (#103 Rusedski, #264 Lee Childs, #277 Jonathan Marray and #290 Bogdanovich have all got main draw wildcards, but the 3rd highest ranked British player, #158 Parmar, did not!) .. They still have 4 wildcards to give to main draw and 10 more in the qualies.

Also, so far no withdrawals at all at sHertogenbosch or Nottingham either. Strange.

arvind parmar hasn't got a wimbledon wildcard under the new lta guidelines.

Anyone brit in the top 300 can qualify for a wildcard, unless they have already been awarded 3 wildcards.
Then they can only have a WC if they're in the top 150, so unfortunately arvind just misses out.

Thanks Jonny for the clarification.

But that is an absolutely asinine rule to follow. I am sure if it is a guideline, they could always bend it a bit. The guy is ranked #158 for crying out loud. Something tells me that for certain other players the rules might have got bent. In any event, it is absolutely crazy to screw up the #3 player of the country out of a chance to play a grand slam with such a stupid rule. It is not like Britian has had so many top-150 players lately, except for Henman and Rusedski! .. And it is not like they don't have enough wildcards to hand out either.

There aren;t enough people interested in helping out Arvind, the way I see it, whatever reason they give.

since elseneer is in the main draw now, he won't play quali's.
so Pospisil is in now i assume.

My guess of the player pulling out in rosmalen is Marat Safin!
I'll try to update the lists as soon as jay has posted the info!

I don't know why I should show consideration to ATP and the tournaments and withhold the names of top players who withdraw. Afterall, THEY have not shown any consideration to us fans ...

But then again, as some of our info (not all) comes courtesy player(s) off the ATP players' website, perhaps I should keep them out of trouble too.

As for your guess on the withdrawal being Marat Safin .. well ... well .. my lips are sealed ;) ;)

One more special exempt spots each cleared at the tournaments.

IN: Llodra
NEXT-IN: Moodie, Elseneer, Salzenstein, Koubek

I suppose there may not be a whole lot more of changes after this, as it a few hours from the qualifying draws being made.

OUT: Kiefer, Llodra (who may be at Rosmalen, I suppose)
IN: Moodie, Elseneer
NEXT-IN: Salzenstein, Koubek, Carlsen, Lopez

Rosmalen:
No chanhge. Lu was the last entry

I believe that is the end of the cut movements. Any further wirthdrawals would happen if the supervisor at site heard anything in the last couple of hours or so.

Wimbledon Q:
OUT: Parmar (main draw WC), T.Reid (main draw WC), Cakl, Veronelli
IN: Azzaro, Berrer, S.Gonzalez, Bruthans. Cut at #265 now.
NEXT-IN: Bachelot, Stepanek, Daniel, Gicquel

Why do you call it Rosmalen instead of Hertogenbosch? I didn't know what you were talking about till I looked it up.

Postby R. Jayakrishnan » Sat Jun 12, 2004 2:27 pm

Yes, I thought of correcting it many times, but since the original post called it Rosmalen, I stuck to it.

The tournament used to be called Rosmalen ATP till about 6 years back. The place where the tournament is (Auto Museum and tennis club), is in between the two cities, Rosmalen and s'-Hertogenbosch. They changed the name a few years back (.. because the courts are closer to s'-Hertogenbosch - something like that) ..

Anyway, the popular name of the city is "den Bosch", and nobody out there says the tough name s'-Hertogenbosch .... Wish ATP had called it DenBosch ATP...

Jay,
Which rankings are they using for the Qualies cutoff? I'm surprised to see Zack Fleishman so far down the list. And thanks for all of the info, whereever you are getting it from, it's great.

Jay,

hats off to the info you provide - where do you get it from? Presumably not the ATp main site ? Is there somewhere this info is available, or are you just constantly searching all of the players web sites??

thanks and well done

PS I used to know a couple of companies based in Irvine, Ca - great place, used to stay at the Westin South coast plaza near the large mall - come from the UK, but love the place.

Thanks Jon. I get the info basically from what the ATP porovides to only the players and does not make public. As I have said elsewhere, I think it is OK to put the kind of info that does not appear to be of concern to tournaments. They obviously would not want big name withdrawals published I assume, so I have been a bit careful .. Then again, perhaps we shouldn't be that nice to ATP .. I don't know if it is right or wrong to keep this info away from the public, if delaying the announcement of any big withdrawals is the reason (I have not seen ATP say that this is the reason, though)...

If I can find time and if some entry info becomes available to me, I will put it up here.

Anyway, as of now there does not seem to be any further withdrawal from the Wimbledon Q list with just about a day to go. Unusual for the cut to be up at #265 this late. Looks like the Wimbledon qualifying cut will be somewhere as high as 280 or 290.

Jay

PS: Cool to know you have been in Irvine. Yes, it is a nice place!

Fiona:

They use the rank list from three weeks ahead of the monday of the qualifying week for entries... Yes, the cut seems to be a bit higher this time.

Thanks Jay. I kind of had a feeling that was your info source. I think that what you are doing is okay, you are supplying info to serious tennis fans in only two places that I know of, without harm to anyone that I can see. I appreciate it because it's much easier than waiting until the last possible moment, or emailing the lower ranked players that I know (and hoping that they can get online in whatever corner of the world they happen to be in at that moment).

Let me know if you might be venturing northbound on the 405 for the MB Cup at UCLA in July. I hope to be there for almost the whole week.
