Is Alex Bogomolov on any of those alternate lists or do they all stop at #15 right now??

No,the alternate lists don't stop at 15. I will add the rest of the lists when needed.
Bogomolov is Alternate No. 18 in Moscow and No. 19 in Vienna. He's not on the Metz-alternatelist.

Rusedski

Postby vinit » Fri Oct 01, 2004 2:40 pm

Escude and El Aynaoui have withdrew, so does that mean Rusedski is in the main draw?

Early updates:

Metz
OUT: ElAynaoui, Escude, Santoro, Verkerk (and Boutter from ALT)
IN: Ruesedski, Corretja, Starace, Sluiter
NEXT: Carlsen, Kohlschreiber, O.Rochus, Morrison, Sanguinetti

Moscow
OUT: Kiefer (and Sluiter from ALT)
IN: Beck
NEXT: Hernych, Rusedski, Corretja, Starace, Carlsen

Vienna
OUT: Moya, Schalken (and Beck from ALT)
IN: Tursunov, Henrych
NEXT: Rusedski, Cirretja, Starace, Sluiter, Koubek, Carlsen

Vienna Q
No change.

That means we will have to wait to find out where Rusedski, Corretja, Starace, etc would play. Though they have made Metz, they aren't cut from the other places, which may be higher in their preference order.

Henman in Vienna?

Postby Guest » Mon Oct 04, 2004 11:12 am

The latest news on the German version of the Vienna (CA Trophy) website seems to indicate that they are negotiating with Tim Henman for a possible appearance next week. That makes sense, since Tim pulled out of Lyon this week, but now appears to be better. Strange that in the same article they've announced their seedings though; Tim would have to be seeded first if he played.

For those that can read German, see http://www.sport1.at/pub/catennistrophy ... 38420.html

Can anybody confirm this?

zk013: Can't say even approximately who would be there in the Moscow qualies. Unless there is a 3-week ahead entry list for the qualies with players commiting to play (which is there only for very few ATP tour events like the Vienna ATP next week), we will have to wait till the players show up and sign in on Friday night.

As the main draw cut drops by thursday, check who are the top 3-4 players below the cut. They normally show up by Friday in the hope that somebody might withdraw from the main draw entry list and they would make it in without qualies. In the end they sign up for qualies by 7 pm Friday. So there is a good chance for the top 3-4 players below the cut (assuming they are not similarly below the cut at other ATP events also) to be there for Q. Otherwise, whoever shows up plays the Q - cannot guess at all.

Yes, they definitely say that Henman is a possible candidate, since Moya has pulled out with a shoulder injury. As for seedings, I think they mean that unless someone else comes in, Nalbandian will be top seed.

I think it's unlikely that Henman will play, although he seems better in this interview:

http://www.timhenman.org/NEWS/fullstory ... itype=5883

Considering he wants to qualify for TMC Houston, playing Vienna would be good, especially since he is defending points there as well.

About the only info that I can offer is that Alex Bogomolov will be out of the list for Moscow.

The reason why we only post the top 15 out of some 75 or 100 ALT names is that the rest of the names in the list have no meaning. Just seing your favorite players' name in the list below 15 or 20 does not indicate anything. The playes below about 15 or so make absolutely no plans to go to the given tournament - all those names are pretty much in all three lists anyway and where they will go for qualies, if at all they decide to play qualies, is also not known from the list. So, the list really has no meaning below about 15 or 20 in the ALT.

However, I always list the next 6 to 8 or so names below the cut as it stands on any day. That is important, because today there may be some players in the NEXT lists who might start thinking of last minute travel plans to those places, in the hope that they might somehow make it in by tomorrow evening. The others in the ALT list may go anywhere they want. For that matter, they don't really need to be in the ALT list to go anywhere and sign in anyway!

In other words, don't worry about players in the ALT list below what BelgiumDude and I post - there is no informative value to it at all !

The SE spot is kept for Ulihrach, who is in the QF at Tokyo.
Since Vienna is ISG tournament, it can get SE only from another ISG, so only Tokyo is qualified.

Morrison, Sanguinetti and Carlsen are listed as IN at one tournament and NEXT in another... presumably that means Vliegen and Pless are actually first on the NEXT lists...

Not necessarily, nitsansh. When they leave the names in other lists, it is normally because the player had those places as higher priority. So, these guys can be moved out of places where they are in "IN" right now and be placed in another one, depending on how the SE spots clear... Can't say anything right now about where these three will end up playing! ...

If the SEs clear today or there are withdrawals and these three tell ATP where they are playing, then we will have Vliegen, Pless and Garcia in a similar situation. It always fascinates me how ATP manages to get players placed somewhere by friday afternoon!

I'm curious how they manage the SEs in tournaments where there are no qualifying lists... do players have to notify ATP to be considered as SE?

Actually the rules say that ATP suupervisors at the events are supposed ask by wednesday night or something whether any of the few candidates for SEs there would be interested in getting the SEs (and if so where) in case they would be still playing as of friday evening. Then ATP will pruine the list during fthursday and friday as these guys lose. If all those players lose by thursday and friday, ATP will release the SEs.

If they would get an SE spot somewhere and would not be able to go, the players are responsible to tell the ATP through the site supervisor, from what I understand. There is some fine involved in not showing up after you get an SE. Of course the highest ranked players who haven't lost by friday 5 pm(?) at the same level of tournament, gets the SE spots. If you think they might be keeping an SE for you and you don't expect to get there by next monday for some reason, better tell the ATP supervisor on site.

Something like that ..
