Alex Bogdanovic

Postby Rob & Stephen » Thu Aug 12, 2004 8:13 am

Jay, Alex Bogdanovic gets rather annoyed when people get his name wrong and has no 'h' at the end of his name. He complains to the ATP quite often about it, so i thought i'd tell you before he gets to you too.
PS. When is Stephen Amritraj going to regain his Indian heritage and not play for the USA?
Talk soon, Rob

Postby R. Jayakrishnan » Thu Aug 12, 2004 8:44 am

I knew there was no "h" with Alex (I think) .. I was copying the line in the lists in this thread and kept copying the wrong spelling! .. Will stick to "vic" from now on ... Hey, at least I did not add an e at the end and call him Bog-Da-Novice :)

As for Stephen - Well, he is born and brought up in the US but also bleeds a good amount of Indian blood. He has had a long setback with a knee injury and is just coming out from it. Will be back in college tennis at Duke this year. I suppose he is witing to raise his singles game a couple of notches and make some noise before starting any serious talk about playing under the Indian colors. Let us see ...

Stephen Amritraj

Postby Rob & Stephen » Thu Aug 12, 2004 8:57 am

Thanks for the reply.
Shame about his injury. I have recently made a topic in the Pro Tour forum about players, injuries and such like - please feel free to comment on it.
I have seen Prakash and Stephen play doubles together and I think your quite correct about them needing to improve a wee bit. At the moment their not as consitant strokers of the ball as their father and uncles were - and still are as Vijay shows on the seniors tour.
How does Vijay feel about his sons playing for two different countries?
Time to go, talk soon.

I know we are off-topic here, but Stephen Amritraj is actually the son of Vijay's brother and old doubles partner, Anand. They are all fine with whichever way the sons turn out to be. Playing for USA or IND. In Prakash's case, there was better opportunity to be among the top-4 in India than be unknown in the USA, so they chose that option. Stephen has not come up that much yet ....

Changes in the ALT list NEXT-IN (main draw withdrawal news withheld as usual!):

Bronx (2 SEs to go): Taino, Suzuki, Berrer, Faurel, Serra ..

Geneva (2 SEs to go): Azzaro, Serrano, Tuksar, Todero, S.Gonzalez, Dellatorre ..

Samarkand (1 SE to go): van Gemerden (IN), Vlasov (IN), Szymanski, Mertl, Banks, Auckland, Stakhovsky, Petrazzuolo ..

Monchengladbach (both SEs released): Kralert (IN), Azzaro (IN), Serrano, Tuksar, Todero, S.Gonzalez, Dellatorre ..

Jay

PS: Note that all players who made the draws from the ALT will be listed in one of the updates as (IN). That is, if a player was first in the NEXT list in one update and just disappears the next time, it doesn't mean he made it in - just that he is not going there. or he would be listed as an (IN) .. Just clarifying my update scheme :)

That was about it for official changes ... There may have been some more withdrawals befiore the qualies sign-in time when the main draw lists were finalized.

Here are the qualifying seeds for the Europe-Asia challengers .. I supppose, a few of the next-in players (Serrano, Tuksar, Todero, S.Gonzalez, Dellatorre ...) probably made it in the end somewhere with SEs clearing in the end.

Geneva Q:
1. Lammer, 2. Contzler, 3. Violca, 4. Bohli, 5. Wiltsching, 6. Guez, 7. Brizzi, 8. Capdeville

Samarkand Q:
1. Child, 2. Banks, 3, Chromasta, 4. Jimenez-Letrado, 5. Kedriouk, 6, D.Alvarez, 8. Ogorodov

Monchengladbach Q:
1. Mackin, 2. Summerer, 3. Zelenay, 4. Petzchner, 5. Munoz De La Nava, 6. Neunteibl, 7. Quintero, 8. A.Beck
