Very good question! .. Yes, Sluiter is in the Olympics and Washington lists. I assume he will withdraw from one of the two (probably withdraw from DC?)

That must be a mistake by either ITF or by ATP...

It's nice to see both Nicolas Escudé and Wayne Ferreira in that Washington entry list. At Wimbledon Wayne told me that he would only play US Open but now he's already played in LA and is listed for Washington. 8) And I really hope Escudé's shoulder injury is healed and he can play. How much bad luck a player can have each year... :(

Good idea. Except you have to edit and it out from here and move it to the Long Island week (week 34) which is when the USO qualies are.

I will then delete the qualies list from the US Open (week 35/36) page, because it would be easier to keep up the entry list updates together in a couple of weeks, for Long Island and USO Qualies.

So, now we understand why Sluiter had put his name for the Washington DC event and the Olympics list. He knkew that his country doesn't think highly enough of him to allow him to play at the Olympics. So he put his name in for DC. The Olympics list was the names of those who qualified. Does not mean they will be allowed to go by their country's associations.

Does your entire life revolve around Alex Bogomolov......are you related to him,is he your brother, your cousin.......what's the story.
I mean the guy's not the next Roddick or Federer,he's just a Top 100 Pro Tennis player.

Thank the Higher Power that he's not the "next Roddick or Federer." He's an individual that happens to be a damn good player. Personally, I think he's the best out there.

I mean no offense by this but "the story" with Alex Bogomolov is really none of your business. I may have been more receptive to telling you how I came to start supporting his tennis career but your post strikes me as an insult.

No, I'm not a relative. I'm just someone who supports what he does on the court and also respects him as a person.

No qualifying list, as usual. The main draw alternate list is above, so two or threeplayers who miss the cut by next friday would definitely be there for qualies. It will be a sign-in next friday night, so by late night then we will know who all goes.

Jay

PS: Only a few ATP events outside of grand slams have an entry list for qualies that players enter early. Roght now Madrid Masters, Paris Masters, Tokyo ATP and Vienna ATP are ones which have qualifyinmg entry lists for the rest of the year

As far as I know, injury protected ranking can be used for 8 tournaments or 9 months from the 1st tournament after injury, whichever last first.

Weiner has now been No 1 seed in three of the US Open Series events...never an SE,never a Wild Card....that's tough luck,or maybe "no luck". ;)

They do have the correct draw at the draws&scores page. Most website are no good in reporting qualies results anyway. They did promptly post the saturday schedule and all early today, so at least they are doing something. So I don;t thin Dubya is in charge ;)

Certainly not a candidate to beat the Newport "Hall of Fame" website, which has been the holder of the "worst ATP website" award for many many years with nobody close to taking it away from them.. :)

Well, there are specific rules to get Special Exempts, they are not just handed out as gifts. You have to be playing in a tournament that causes you to miss your chance to play in qualies. As for the wildcards, those are not always easy to come by, even in the smaller tournaments. There are only 3 in a 32 player draw and some tournies promise them to a junior who wins a USTA tournament (as DC does) or keeps them for clients of the agency that owns the tournament (SFX owns LeggMason). In Los Angeles earlier this year, no one needed the WC's, so they were given to the next three guys on the Alt list and they got to skip qualies. Even though Glenn is moving up the rankings at a pretty good clip lately, he is an older player, not very well known yet, and I think he doesn't have an agent to do his legwork for him. All of that works against him when it comes to getting those wildcards.

I agree with what you say.....so I guess it's fair to say that Paul Goldstein has one helluva agent. ;) .....ranked 151 how did he get a Wildcard.?

I can't explain the wildcards for this tournament at all. Makes me wonder if they had one left over and put the names of the Americans in qualies into a hat and drew one out. Can't remember if Paul is on the SFX roster, or if he might be considered a local guy (I know he went to Stanford, but can't remember where he grew up). Perhaps it was a wedding present from one of the tournament staff. He's a really good guy though, so its hard to begrudge him a spot in an ATP draw, every once in a while.

Paul Goldstein

Postby John Weber » Sun Aug 15, 2004 3:16 pm

Paul Goldstein, for those of you who don't know, is a local DC-area product (Silver Spring, MD, I think) who has appeared at the Legg Mason tournament in DC year after year. It's unfortunate with the reduction in the size of the main draw from 48 to 32 that he doesn't make the cut as a direct entry, but his Wild Card is the result of no "gift" or agent as he is a fan favorite every year in DC, and I think his presence in the main draw will help sell tickets. Every time I have seen him play he always hustles and gives 110%. He is one of the players I am looking forward to seeing when I attend the tournament here later this week.

John

Every Pro player I've ever seen hustles and gives 110%.
In fact in the few times I've actually stood on a court and watched a Pro playing another Pro,it seemed as though they were giving 210%......astonishing experience.

Let's face it,it's not what you know,it's who you know. ;)

ranking

Postby Guest » Mon Aug 16, 2004 7:46 am

Well, the ranking taken as reference is not this week's ranking but an older ranking (a few weeks ago). On this ranking Salzenstein was #109 (see Jay's post on the 4th of August), so he could enter the draw after some withdrawals.
