Don't think so - it's just a precaution. Feña is very cautios - unlike Massú who should also rest due to the problems with his adductors. His doctor recommended it but he can't stop and right now he's battling in B.Aires against M. Daniel (3:1 up in 3rd set...)

This new system really allows them to change I wonder if it was Mark or Daniel who preferred to play in Memphis.

There is no commitment list. Just an informal list the ATP keeps, based on whichever doubles teams tell them their intention. They can change anytime. I think I might have made a mistake above though .. The current list is -

Jay: Are you sure about there being no SE spots in Costa do Sauipe? There are three IS tournaments this week & Costa do Sauipe is the only IS tournament next week. Also, without the two SE spots in the entry list, there are only 30 players. I expect they would be cleared soon anyway, but that still leaves only 30 players in the entry list.

Hi Nathii

- from what I've heard, Chucho is just tired and wants a break. He has played almost every day for 2 weeks (and he normally plays doubles as well as singles), he is still involved in the Buenos Aires tournament as I write this- and he just feels his body needs a week off to rest. Nothing major to worry about at all. Must say - I thought you could not withdraw from a tournament while still involved in one the week before though

According to ATP RULE BOOK : " 3) No player may continue playing in an ATP or Challenger Series Tournament in singles or doubles after giving notice of withdrawal from a Tournament scheduled for the next week. "

So there are only two possible explanations .

1) Acasuso knew beforehand he was gonna lose , that is he lost on purpose .

2 ) If he had defeat Calleri he had been disqualifyed . Then Calleri would have been designated as the winner of the match or maybe Volandri would pass directly to the final without playing the semifinal ??

Aliás, o mineiro teve outra boa notícia no sortei, pois escapou da batalha com um dos favoritos na primeira rodada e encara um classificado do qualifying. "O Brasil Open é um torneio que gosto muito, mas tive uma semana dura aqui em Buenos Aires, estou com dores nas costas e preciso me preservar", justificou Moyá, que decide na Argentina neste domingo contra o italiano Filippo Volandri.

Quem também desistiu de disputar o Brasil Open 2006 foi o argentino Guillermo Coria. "Sei que neste momento não estou jogando meu melhor tênis, que as coisas não estão acontecendo do jeito que eu esperava e tenho também sentido dores no cotovelo. Tudo isso fez com que eu desistisse do Brasil Open, torneio do qual tenho uma ótima recordação (fez a final de 2002, contra o Guga). Tomara que eu consiga encontrar meu melhor tênis e, em 2007, jogar de novo na Costa do Sauípe", comentou o 7º do ranking mundial.

Dutch WC Sjeng Schalken won't play either due to an injury. They will be replaced by lucky losers

They are college players, spizzo at the university of tennessee, a pretty good player and is worth giving a wildcard to, the other dude...mister Spence however, plays for the university of Memphis and does not seem to be on the same level as mr. spizzo and I would say does not deserve a WC but what can I say, he is the hometown boy

Acording to a Dutch friend of mine, Nadal has also withdrawn from Rotterdam. Their source is local radio and TV teletext news. I understand he has withdrawn through "exhaustion" but I have no further details at the moment.

here it's said Nadal withdrawn from Rotterdam. It's the local radio's site referred to before.
This local radio (and tv station) is mostly well-informed and not just a little local station. It's well know through the whole region near Rotterdam.

He played 4 matches this year... and now he is tired!!

They should suspend him for a year... then he can rest from his 4 matches... Rotterdam almost depended on him to "save" their tournament... and now this...

He should be ashemed of himself.

What happens when one more player pulls back? Will someone who only entered the qualies and didn't even won one match get in?
