Hyeon Chung will look to continue his great start to 2018 when he faces John Isner for a spot in the semi finals at the Miami Open. The Korean is now the highest ranked player in Asia, having taken over a Kei Nishikori who is only just returning back to the tour now. The winner will play either Milos Raonic or Juan Martin Del Potro.

Isner has always played much better in his home country than elsewhere with his two Masters 1000 finals and three semi finals across Miami, Indian Wells and Cincinnati showing that. However, he has not displayed that form for a while and came into the Miami at just 2-6 on the year. He made it this far after shocking No.2 seed Marin Cilic in the previous round, winning in straight sets to extend the Croatian’s poor record in Miami. “That’s certainly the best I’ve served all year… today I served exceptionally well and that’s what kept me in the match and put scoreboard pressure on him and I finally was able to break through and get a break.” he said of the win in which he won 85% of points on first serve.
Isner’s year began with a loss to Chung and the Korean’s year has continued to get better from there. He is now 18-6 on the year with six quarter finals already to his name. He has bounced back well after losing to Roger Federer at Indian Wells at the same stage. He saved the only break point he faced in the last round, beating Joao Sousa 6-4 6-3 in just over an hour. “He’s found the magic potion this year for sure. He’s playing incredibly well,” Isner said of Chung.
Prediction – Hyeon Chung in straight sets
