After a disappointing few weeks, Grigor Dimitrov will be hoping for a good run at the Miami Open. The Bulgarian is still holding on to his spot in the top four although Alexander Zverev and a red-hot Juan Martin Del Potro are on the chase. Dimitrov plays Jeremy Chardy with the winner facing either Diego Schwartzman or Milos Raonic in round four.

Although Dimitrov ended his three match losing streak in the previous round, it was far from convincing against Maximillian Marter. He needed three sets to beat the German, finally winning 4-6 6-2 6-1. Expectations of going far didn’t seem at the front of Dimitrov’s mind pre-tournament. “I’m definitely going to lower my expectations a little bit coming into this week. I just haven’t played that many matches in the past few weeks,” Dimitrov said. “I’m just starting to feel my body good, and I’m feeling confident. Step-by-step I just want to build my game up and make sure that I’m doing the best that I can.”
Chardy has made it this far with straight sets wins over Rogerio Dutra Silva and Richard Gasquet. After falling down 0-4 against Gasquet, he lost just two more games in what turned out to be a comfortable victory against his compatriot. He has his best chance to get a second win over the Bulgarian, having first beaten a 20 year-old Dimitrov at the French Open 7 years ago. They have met three more times since with three Dimitrov wins, including twice at grand slams.
Prediction – Grigor Dimitrov in three sets
