Yaya Touré, who scored twice at the Hawthorns, will be fit for this clash after being substituted over fears of him developing a slight groin problem against West Brom on Monday night, Gæl Clichy may return following an ankle injury but Fernando and Fabian Delph remain sidelined.
Chelsea goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois will serve a one-match suspension following his reckless challenge on Bafetimbi Gomis on Saturday. New signing, Asmir Begovic will take his place in last season’s meanest defence. Oscar is a minor doubt after injuring himself in training this week.
José Mourinho believes that “City are title contenders so three points are important, but I cannot say that a win will mean anything significant.” While Pellegrini shares a similar opinion, he has said that City “are thinking about trying to win points at home, especially as we are playing against the champions and one of the teams that has a lot of chances to win the title.”
I haven’t seen enough of either side to be convinced that they have improved since last season but I am convinced that, while Chelsea will probably be happy with a point at the Etihad, City will just have too much for them in the forward positions.
