Croatian Davis Cup captain Zeljko Krajan will serve as the new coach for breakout talent Borna Coric.
Fresh off the biggest win of his career – a quarter-final win over Rafael Nadal in straight sets at the Swiss Indoor Basel – the 17-year-old Coric required a step up in his coaching staff, hence his attraction to the experienced trainer.
Krajan has coached the likes of Dominika Cibulkova, Jelena Jankovic and Laura Robson on the WTA Tour. Since his return to the ATP Tour in 2013, he has worked with former world No. 8 and Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis. He also captains the Croatian Davis Cup team.
While Coric has made some gradual developments throughout the 2014 season, including winning some ATP Challenger titles, he posted his career-best score in his last tournament of the season in Basel. The youngster defeated No. 13 Ernests Gulbis, and then followed up with a historic win over Nadal to reach his first ever semi-final stage of an ATP World Tour event. He also became the youngest man to do so since Nadal achieved that in 2003.
Overall, he broke into the Top 200 in July, and finished the season with a career-high of No. 92.
