 Serena Williams

After handing Serena Williams her worst professional loss on a tennis court since 1998, Simona Halep will look to duplicate her efforts on Sunday afternoon in Singapore – this time in the final of the prestigious year-end WTA Finals. Of their four previous meetings on the tour, Williams still leads the series 3-1, yet has been unable to beat her Romanian adversary in 2014 – her breakthrough season. Check out the Williams v Halep Head to Head.

In the first semi-final on court, Serena Williams was forced to rally from a set down to defeat her good friend Caroline Wozniacki in a third set tiebreak 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(6). The win sends Williams into her third straight final, where she will look to secure a third consecutive year-end crown.

“It’s a new day a new match so who knows what’s going to happen there. I know she’ll be more focused and I just want to enjoy the final “I’m aiming to win at least three games this time.”

In keeping with her remarkable week in Singapore – her debut at the WTA finals – Simona Halep stormed into the final of the tournament with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Agnieszka Radwanska. The Romanian completely outclassed her crafty opponent, and left Aga with few opportunities to control the rallies and shotmaking.

“I’m very excited to be in the finals. I didn’t expect this result here and I’ve had to work very hard to play my best tennis here this week,” Halep said. “Agnieszka’s also a great player and I want to congratulate her on reaching the semifinals. I also want to thank everyone that came to support us – they were unbelievable.

“I knew that I’d have to run a lot and that she’s also running very well. I just wanted to play very fast and finish the points very quick and take the ball inside the baseline. My style was to be aggressive. I did that and also served really well.”

This marks the fifth time that Williams and Halep will meet on the professional tour, and the second time at the prestigious year-end championships this season. It is safe to say that Williams will be on high alert this time around, after managing no more than 2 games in her last encounter with the inspired Halep. While Williams is capable of earning the victory at her best, this may be Halep’s time to shine as the year-end WTA champion.

Prediction: Simona Halep in Three Sets

        • I have studied both of their games and I see Halep winning game set match in two. I just hope Williams doesn’t go crazy like at the USOpen a couple of times.
After a bagel from Halep you could see she was getting violent.

          • Don’t be ridiculous! Serena applauded one of Halep’s shots early in the second set and called her performance perfect. ALL tennis players get angry when they lose.

          • AndrewSpence1  Obviously you missed that part where she started screaming at Halep… Yes she is on heavy drugs and will undoubtedly go berserk again when Halep beats her. She never has and never will have a place in Womens Tennis… Way too crude of a person.

Are you crazy? No place in tennis? You call yourself Mr. Tennis. How can you if you don’t recognize Serena as one of he greatest female tennis players of all time. Idiot, she has 18 grand slam titles and is not done yet. I suggest you google her history of tennis!

  1. It’ll be interesting to see how Simona will handle the pressure to be in the biggest finals of her career so far. One of the key thing to consider here is the way top caliber “veterans” react when the stakes are high. (i.e. Li Na vs Dominica Australia, Maria vs Simona French, Petra vs Eugene Wimbledon and most recently Serena vs Caro US) they are a completely different Players when the finish line is with in their sight. Also, Serena is 6-0 when she reaches the final this year and she played the hottest players during and on the final of those tournaments (Vika in Brisbane, Li, fresh off AO victory, in Miami, Sara and Ana in Rome, Ana and Angelique in Stanford, Caro and Ana in Cincinnati and Makarova and Caro in USO). This match will definitely going to be a close and entertaining one, but if there’s anything history taught us the last few years. Serena is dangerous when she has something to prove. I will go with experience and Serena in 3 close sets on this one.

    • What does your opinion about Serena’s looks have to with a prediction of who will win the match? Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!!!! I just saw the match and your prediction was way off. My beauty Serena won in straight sets and she did not fake an injury…………

  2. I am a fan of Simona since last year. She has improved tremendously and has learned a lot from the tough losses with Maria this year. She might not win tomorrow, but I would bet at least a tough three setter. And a GS for her in 2015.

  3. I can’t see Serena allowing herself to be defeated twice in a row. She’ll walk in today with a clear game plan. It all depends on how she starts off though because she needs to be ON from the beginning.

    • Regardless of the outcome, Serena will still be #1. She’s won more titles this year than Halep, including a grand slam, which Simona hasn’t. Williams is a GOAT. It’s unlikely Halep will ever come close to that since she’s already 23 and her style of play doesn’t tend to be kind to players beyond 28/29.

  4. Serena’s made enough money as if she lived a couple of lives! Unfortunately she lives just one and today it looked like it was all about payback – the sheer desire to give the bagel back… I wonder how it feels – I don’t think you can get happiness from revenge…
