Eighth seed Milos Raonic will look to cement his spot in the Barclays ATP World Tour Final as he moves his campaign over to the Shanghai Rolex Masters. The Canadian will begin his tournament in the second round against Argentina’s Juan Monaco, whom he has encountered once previously on the previous tour. Monaco leads the head to head series 1-0 with a win at the 2012 French Open.
Following a strong week in Tokyo, Raonic failed in his third bid to capture the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships title after losing to Kei Nishikori in a thrilling three-set encounter. Prior to that, he had secured two of the five rubbers in the tie against Colombia.
Following a strong run in Shenzhen, where he lost to eventual champion Andy Murray in the semi-final round of the tournament, Juan Monaco began his week in Shanghai with a 6-2, 7-6(4) win over Joao Sousa. He will look to pick up a second round upset over the Canadian.
This marks the second time these two competitors will meet on the ATP World Tour, but also their first meeting in over 2 years on the tour. Much has changed during that time, as Raonic has surpassed Monaco in the rankings and cemented his spot as a Top 10 competitor on the tour. Particularly on hard court, this will be Raonic’s match to lose.
Prediction: Milos Raonic in Three Sets
