A pair of Frenchman have officially announced their withdrawal from the Swiss Indoor Open in Basel, as both Richard Gasquet and Julien Benneteau have bowed out of the tournament for varying reasons.
Gasquet has had a tempestuous few weeks on the ATP World Tour. He helped lead France to a Davis Cup semi-final victory over two-time defending champion Czech Republic by beating Berdych in straight sets sets. He would then lose to an inspired Juan Monaco in the Shenzhen quarter-finals before following up with a second round loss to Tomas Berdych in Shanghai.
Like his fellow countryman, Julien Benneteau helped cement his French Davis Cup team’s spot in the Davis Cup final before travelling over to Asia. There, he reached the final in Kuala Lumpur and the quarter-final round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters, where he lost to eventual champion Roger Federer.
After Richard Gasquet, Julien Benneteau also withdraws from Swiss Indoors in Basel. Where are you hiding, Frenchies? #atp
