The 2014 United States Open finalists will kick off the New Year in exciting fashion. Champion Marin Cilic and runner-up Kei Nishikori are scheduled to join world No. 3 Roger Federer at the Brisbane International event in Australia.
Cilic won his maiden Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows in September and will be making his third appearance in Brisbane, and this time the Croat admits that he will be swelling with a confidence he previously did not know existed.
“Knowing I have this grand slam in my closet, for sure it will bring me more freedom in my game,” Cilic said. “It’s definitely a very interesting part of the year to see how the players are going to do and what they have worked on (in the off-season).”
Nishikori is a former two-time semi-finalist in Brisbane and will be looking for another successful showing at the tournament. He will be joined by 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who lost in last year’s final to Australian No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt.
The Brisbane International takes place between January 4-11.
