An interesting first round match-up is scheduled to take place in the opening round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, as Italian No.1 Sara Errani and German No. 2 Sabine Lisicki meet for the second time on the WTA Tour. The Errani vs Lisicki Head-to-Head stands at 1-0, with the Italian prevailing at the French Open last year.

Italy’s Sara Errani is yet to play a match on the hard courts since the Wimbledon Championships, as she chose to play the clay tournament in Bad Gastein, Sweden. There, she defeated Siniakova, Ormaechea and Scheepers before losing to Shelby Rogers. Apart from the string of wins on clay, Errani has been inconsistent on other surfaces, as she lost her only two matches on grass this season.

Sabine Lisicki was knocked out of the Wimbledon Championships in the quarter-final round. Then, in her opening match in Stanford, the German No. 2 served at 131 miles per hour (approx. 211 km) on one of her points against Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic, thus beating the record previously set by former world No. 1 Venus Williams.

Having dropped significantly in the rankings over the past few months, the German No. 2 will be looking to work her way back into the Top 20 with strong showings in the remainder of the US Open Series.

This marks the second time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Errani leading the series 1-0 with a victory at last year’s French Open. While the Italian’s victory was swift and commanding, it was on her preferred surface and before Lisicki boosted her level and reached the final at Wimbledon a month later. Errani will likely be troubled by Lisicki’s serve on a hard court and will likely lose in straight sets.

Prediction: Sabine Lisicki in Straight Sets
