Fresh off his title victory in Washington last week, Canadian star Milos Raonic will begin his campaign on home soil on Wednesday afternoon, where he will meet one half of the Wimbledon doubles champions Jack Sock in second round action. This is the fifth encounter between the two athletes and their second in as many weeks after Raonic defeated Sock in the second round in Washington. The Raonic vs Sock Head-to-Head stands at 4-1.
Not only did Raonic win his biggest title yet on the ATP World Tour, he carved himself a small place in history with Pospisil when they emerged as the first all-Canadian final in the Open Era. It was the second time that Raonic and Pospisil crossed paths on the professional tour and once again Raonic was able to overwhelm his younger opponent en route to victory. While the first meeting was a tight affair that went to a third set tiebreaker, Raonic cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory on Sunday to deny Pospisil his first title on the ATP World Tour.
This marked Raonic’s first title win since last September, when he beat Berdych in the Bangkok final.
Following his second round loss to Raonic in Washington, Jack Sock arrived in Toronto over the weekend prepared to make his mark in the Masters 1000 tournament. While he was dominant in his first round win against Jurgen Melzer, whom he defeated 6-1, 6-3 in less than 1 hour of court time, he is now faced with another second round match against the top ranked Canadian.
This marks the sixth time these two competitors will cross paths on the professional tour and the third time in just over one month on the tour. Sock’s sole win over Raonic came in Memphis last season and he has since lost four consecutive matches to the Canadian. Facing the Ontario-native on his home soil will certainly not help Sock’s chances either.
Prediction: Milos Raonic in Straight Sets
