A battle between two of the ATP World Tour’s youngsters is scheduled to take place in the opening round of the United States Open, as Grigor Dimitrov and USA’s Ryan Harrison get set to meet for the second time on the professional tour. Their first meeting took place less than two months ago at the Wimbledon Championships in a contest that the Bulgarian won in straight sets to give himself a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head series.
Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov managed to make a deep run at the Rogers Cup and did not lose until he encountered eventual champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi- final stage of the tournament. Sadly, he would have his momentum halted in the opening round in Cincinnati, where he lost to Polish No. 1 Jerzy Janowicz in three sets. Like Tsonga, Dimitrov will be looking to rebound from the slight hiccup in his Cincinnati opener and make a deep run at the season’s final Grand Slam event.
Following his opening round loss to Dimitrov at SW19, Harrison added to his losing streak with first round exits in Newport and Atlanta before reaching the second round in Winston-Salem, where he went out to Lukas Rosol.
This is the second time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour after their first meeting took place less than two months ago at the Wimbledon Championships. Dimitrov holds the advantage in every single respect, including ranking, momentum, and experience, which made the difference in their first encounter and should prove exactly the same once again this time around.
Prediction: Grigor Dimitrov in Straight Sets
