Following a quick opening round match at the United States Open, Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov is through to the second round of the tournament, where he will meet Israel’s Dudi Sela. This marks the third time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Dimitrov leading the head-to-head series 2-0.
Although this marked his third appearance at the tournament, seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov picked up his first ever win at the US Open on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-2, 7-, 6-2 victory over Ryan Harrison. Dimitrov has 8 aces, won 84% of his first service points and hit 37 winners overall.
Dimitrov reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final at the Australian Open this yeat and followed it up with a semi-final showing at Wimbledon. Considering he has a favourable draw to reach the semi-final this fortnight, it will be interesting to see if he can manage another deep run.
Israel’s Dudi Sela defeated Argentina’ Carlos Berlocq 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the second round of the US Open on Wednesday afternoon. He withstood 12 aces, hitk 38 winers and managed to convert on 5 of 12 break point opportunities to close out the victory in 2 hours and 43 minutes.
This marks the third time that Sela and Dimitrov will meet on the professional tour, with the Bulgarian leading the head-to-head series 2-0, including a win at Queen’s Club last season. They are yet to meet on hard court on the professional tour so it will be interesting to see how that contest plays out.
Prediction: Grigor Dimitorv in Straight Sets
