A third encounter between Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard and Samantha Stosur is scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon in the second round of the Connecticut Open. With the series tied at 1-1, this will serve as an entertaining rubber match between two competitors in desperate need of some momentum ahead of the US Open. Check out the Bouchard vs Stosur Head to Head.
World No. 8 Eugenie Bouchard snapped a three-match losing streak with a dominant victory over Bojana Jovanovski in her opening round match in Connecticut. Following first round losses in Montreal and Cincinnati, Bouchard only dropped two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win in 52 minutes. At one point, the Canadian had a 5-0 lead and looked to close out a bagel before Jovanovski managed to claw her way onto the scoreboard.
Coming off her thrilling match-up against Serena Williams, Australia’s Samantha Stosur arrived in Connecticut and picked up a 7-6(5), 6-7(10_, 6-2 win over Kurumi Nara. Stosur hit 9 aces, won 66% of her first service points and converted 7 of 11 break point opportunities to secure the win in 2 hours and 37 minutes.
This marks the third time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour. They split their previous two meetings, the most recent of which was the 2013 Osaka final where Stosur denied the Canadian her first WTA Tour title. If Bouchard is over her rough patch, she should be the favourite for this compelling encounter but one should never count out Stosur.
Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard in Three Sets
