Seventh seed Eugenie Bouchard needed three sets to beat Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-4 on Saturday night to secure her fourth round encounter at the U.S. Open. It looked like Bouchard was en route to a lopsided victory before her opponent rebounded to snatch the second set in a tiebreaker. 2 hours and 31 minutes after the start of the match, Bouchard forced an error on match point and celebrated her win with a loud roar to the delight of the crowd.

“It was special tonight,” Bouchard said after the match. “I felt so much energy on the court. I’ve never felt that much energy on any other tennis court in the world. So it was an unbelievable feeling playing on Arthur Ashe tonight.”

“I was disappointed in myself, not necessarily about going to a third, but by my level in the second set. I was surprised I could do so many unforced errors in one set. You know, that’s something I definitely don’t want to repeat again. But I’m determined to do better in my next match.”

Makarova defeated Cici Bellis’ vanquisher Zarina Diyas 6-2, 6-4 in exactly 74 minutes of court time. She hit 2 aces, 20 winners and won 73% of her first service point en route to the fourth round of the tournament.

This is just the second time that these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Makarova leading the series 1-0 with a straight sets win over Bouchard during the US Open Series last year. She will be looking to make it 2-0 and oust Bouchard in the fourth round of the tournament. While an upset alert is in play here, Bouchard has proven to have Sharapova-like resiliency this week and will not be put away easily.

Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard in Three Sets
