A first round match-up between David Ferrer and Damir Dzumhur is scheduled take place on Day 2 of the United Stated Open on Tuesday afternoon. It is the first time that these two athletes will meet on the professional tour and should prove to be a one-sided affair for the fourth seed.
World No. 5 David Ferrer has had a surprisingly strong summer heading into the US Open. He reached the quarter-final round in Toronto and the final in Cincinnati, losing to 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer on both occasions. While none of his wins during the US Open Series were against Top 10 competition, he still appeared healthy and motivated to perform during the hard court portion of the season.
World No. 119 Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina will begin his campaign in the US Open following just one event during the North American hard court swing. While he took part in the Winston-Salem Open, he failed to win his main draw match against France’s Adrian Mannarino.
This marks the first time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour and will serve as one of the day’s most one-sided affair – barring any absurd circumstances. The Spaniard may have a rough time against high-level competition from the upper echelon of the Emirates ATP Rankings, but he geenrally shines against lower-tier opponents.
Prediction: David Ferrer in Straight Sets
