Caroline Wozniacki picked up her biggest win of the season so far when she dispatched Italy’s Roberta Vinci 6-1, 6-1 to win the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, her 22nd WTA tour title overall.
The Dane stormed through the opening set 6-1, and would carry that momentum forward in the second set to jump to a 4-1 lead. It was there that she faced some resistance from her Italian adversary, as Vinci managed to bring Wozniacki to deuce on her serve but was ultimately unable to convert her break points to work her way back into the match.
Vinci would be forced to serve to stay in the match at 5-1 down, and while she saved the first match point, she smashed a ball into the net on the second match point to lose the contest to her in-form opponent. It was the fifth and final break of serve from Wozniacki that closed out the match.
The doubles final took place earlier in the day and saw Misaki Doi and Elina Svitolina beat Oksana Kalashnikova and Paula Kania, 6-4, 6-0.
Wozniaki, who had reached the semi-final round of three events this year on the tour, has now won at least one title per season since 2008. This marked her 35th WTA Tour final and her 22nd win overall.
