Even though both Richard Gasquet and Bernard Tomic have been two fairly inactive competitors since the start f the season, they are now scheduled to take place in their second clash in less than a month, in what would constitute their sixth meeting on the professional tour. Gasquet leads the head-to-head series 4-1.
Richard Gasquet has not been at his best this season, and it is far from his fault. A back injury sidelined the former top ranked Frenchman, and when he finally returned to the tour after a month off, he lost in the third round of the French Open and his opening match on grass in Halle against Robin Haase. He will be looking to rebound successfully here in Eastbourne, where he received a bye into the second round of the tournament.
Bernard Tomic began his grass court season with a win against Tim Smyczek before losing to Radek Stepanek in the second round of the tournament. He would later arrive at Eastbourne, where he won his opener against Andrey Golubev to set up the meeting against Gasquet. It was a solid win from Tomic, who won the match 6-4, 6-4 in 1 hour and 8 minutes.
This marks the sixth time these two competitors will meet on the professional circuit. Three of those meetings took place in 2013, where Tomic won a key meeting at the Wimbledon Championships. He has another opportunity to repeat his efforts on grass to capture just his second win against the Frenchman.
Prediction: Richard Gasquet in Three Sets
