One of the more enticing third round match-up to take place on Thursday afternoon is the encounter between surging Slovak Dominika Cibulkova and Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova. This is the third time these two competitors will cross paths on the professional tour and Safarova is yet to dent Cibulkova’s 3-0 head-to-head record. World No. 10 Dominika Cibulkova’s arrival at the third round of the Wimbledon Championships was far from easy. The rising WTA star had to rally from a set down to defeat Alison van Uytvanck in a tight battle. Cibulkova bounced back strong in the second set to lead level the match 6-3, but then allowed her opponent to rack up a 4-1 lead before she once again clawed her way back to level terms. She would them extend the match to 6-6 before breaking to snatch the victory 8-6.

23rd seed Lucie Safarova reached the third round of The Championships with a straight sets win against Slovenia’s Polona Hercog. The match, which ended 7-6, 7-5, saw Safarova hit 3 aces, 30 winners and 26 unforced errors. She also on 68% of her points on first serve and 11 of 27 net points.

This is the fourth time these two competitors will cross paths on the professional tour with Cibulkova leading the head-to-head series 3-0. This is the first time they will cross paths on grass and that could lead to a slightly more competitive encounter. Cibulkova will be favoured to advance to the fourth round but Safarova should not be counted out of the match.
