After withdrawing from the Topshelf Open earlier this week due to stomach problems, Spanish No. 2 David Ferrer revealed that he is uncertain about his participation at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships. The former French Open finalist is also suffering from the flu and is worried that he will not manage to prepare himself in time for the prestigious grass court event.
”I’m not sure if I can play at Wimbledon,” Ferrer said. ”I’m going to talk with my doctor in Valencia tomorrow and see. It’s been 10 days now and that’s just too long for this problem.”
This would be a significant blow for Ferrer and his ranking, as he reached the final eight at the 2013 Championships and will be looking to at least match last season’s performance this time around as well.
Ferrer’s problem is a stomach bug, which forced initially forced him to reconsider participating in the s-Hertogenbosch grass court tournament. It will be interesting to see if the Spaniard recovers in time, as he still has several days before the start of the tournament, which is on Monday, June 23rd.
