Seventh seeded David Ferrer has confirmed his participation in the Wimbledon Championships next week, after initial worries that he would miss the tournament due to a fever and stomach bug.
Ferrer, who withdrew from ‘s-Hertogenbosch this week with a stomach problem, revealed the news on his twitter account.
“After tests, told that I can play next week,” he wrote in Spanish. “Tonight we fly to London.”
Missing the season’s third Grand Slam event would have been a significant blow for Ferrer and his ranking, as he reached the final eight at the 2013 Championships and will be looking to at least match last season’s performance this time around as well.
The Spaniard is slotted to face Pablo Carreno Busta in the opening round of the Championships. The order of play is yet to be revealed.
