British No. 1 Andy Murray took part in yet another rapid-fire match to set up a third round clash with Roberto Bautista Agut at the Wimbledon Championships. This is the first time these two competitors will cross paths on the professional tour and will likely be an entertaining contest.

The defending champion needed only 83 minutes to dispatch Blaz Rola 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 and secure his spot in the second round of the tournament. The win puts Murray at 38-7 at The Championships and extends his winning streak at the tournament to 9. To the delight of the crowd – who clearly had no intention of seeing a competitive match for their countryman – Murray hit 7 aces and 27 winners in his clinic on Wednesday. It did not hurt that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall was present to admire the Scot’s work.

“It was nice that she came to watch me,” said Murray, on the royal spectator. “When you are in a position to win a match like that, you have to try and do it as quickly as possible, because all of the players in this tournament are very, very good tennis players. If you give them a look in in a set or they see a way back in, they can start playing very well. You just try to keep it going.”

Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut needed four sets to defeat Jan Hernych 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to set up his third round encounter. He hit 6 aces, 3 double faults, as well s 45 winners and 31 unforced errors in his win.

Murray, who trained with Bautista Agut in Valencia ahead of the Mutua Madrid Open in May, says he is “a very good player. He won the tournament last week on the grass. He doesn’t play like a lot of the Spanish guys. He plays very flat [with] not much topspin. The grass courts suit his game pretty well. It will be a step up for sure. He’s improving all the time.”

While this is the first time these two competitors will cross paths on the professional tour, they have trained together in the past, which is why Murray is well aware that Bautista is a bigger threat than most Spanish players on this particular surface. With that being said, the champ should get through this in straight sets.

Prediction: Andy Murray in Straight Sets
