An enticing third round encounter has been set following Thursday’s action at the Wimbledon Championships. Serbian star Ana Ivanovic and 2013 finalist Sabine Lisicki will cross paths in a compelling contest that will determine who will move onto the second week of the tournament. This is just the second time these two competitors will cross paths on the professional tour, with Ivanovic leading the series 1-0. Check out the Ivanovic vs Lisicki Head to Head.
Less that two weeks since winning her first grass court title, Ana Ivanovic is through to the third round of the Wimbledon Championships, where she will contest a match-up against a formidable German adversary in Sabine Lisicki. The Serbian No. 2 stormed past Zheng Jie, a former Wimbledon semi-finalist, 6-4, 6-0 to secure her spot in the third round. She also hit 3 aces, 20 winners and just 9 unforced errors to complete her clean performance on Thursday.
Sabine Lisicki may not have capitalized on her Wimbledon showing last year by ascending into the top 10, but she did return this year to The Championships and appears to be on a mission to complete what he started last season. The German dispatched Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 7-5 in a match-up that featured some of the bigger servers in the women’s game.
Lisicki appears to bring her best when she is on the Wimbledon grass. She is aggressive, confident and determined. It also does not hurt that her form appears to be peaking this week in the Championships. Her consistency her is remarkable as well, as she has reached the quarter-final round of better for four consecutive years.
“To be honest, I don’t think about it,” she said. “It’s in the back of my mind that I’ve always done so well here. In the previous five years I’ve always played great tennis here. It gives you confidence, and also to have so much support of the crowd is amazing.”
This is just the second time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, and also the second time in as many months. The last time they met was a quick straight sets win for Ivanovic on the clay courts in Stuttgart, but it was also clear that Lisicki was hampered by a shoulder injury that week. This is arguably the most compelling match in the ladies draw on Saturday and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Prediction: Ana Ivanovic in Three Sets
