Ana Ivanovic needed just over an hour to blast Lauren Davis off the court in their R16 clash at the AEGON Classic. Ivanovic hit 28 winners to just 13 winners in the 6-1 6-1 victory.
Tamira Paszek and Victoria Duval were no match for Davis in earlier rounds but the former No.1 was in a totally different league and showed why she could be a contender at Wimbledon with a dominant grass court display. It was one way traffic after the Serbian held from 0-40, saving three break points as she rushed into a 5-1 lead. On set point, Ivanovic made use of a rare serve and volley to close out the set.
Davis fought admirably but was completely outmatched by Ivanovic who continued to blast winners at will not allowing the American to gain any sort of momentum in the match. After failing to convert 4 game points at 1-1, Davis was broken once more as Ivanovic closed out the match with five straight games.
The top seed will play the winner of Coco Vandeweghe and Klara Koukalova in the quarter finals.
