Serena Williams French Open

After taking selfies and befriending each other at the Mouratoglou Academy, world No. 1 Serena Williams and France’s Alize Lim are now scheduled to face each other in the opening round of the French Open on Monday afternoon. It is the first time these two competitors will meet on the professional circuit and will likely be a contest that the red-hot favourite, Williams, will dominate.

The world No. 1 was en route to another title in Madrid, when just hours ahead of her scheduled quarter-final match-up against Petra Kvitova, she was forced to withdraw from the contest with a left thigh injury. She suffered the injury during the Belinda Bencic match-up and has been recovering ever since. While many were worried that this would impact her preparation for the French Open, Williams proved her doubters wrong, as she arrived in Rome and ran through a gauntlet of tough opponents to win her 60th WTA title. Williams defeated Shuai Zhang, Ana Ivanovic and Sara Errani en route to her title win.

World No. 138 Alize Lim was clearly not overly pleased with drawing her American friend in the opening round in Roland Garros. The French player was hanging out with Williams several hours before the draw and quickly took to twitter when she realized that her opponent was the top seed in the Grand Slam.

This marks the first time these two competitors will meet on the tour, and is undoubtedly the toughest match that Lim has ever faced on the professional tour. While she would have hoped to get the opportunity to perform nobly in from of her local crowd, it appears she is now faced with a daunting task that she is ill-equipped to manage.

Prediction: Serena Williams in Straight Sets
