The second day of action at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia will feature an opening round contest between Fabio Fognini and Lukas Rosol. This marks the second time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Fognini leading the series 1-0 with a win at last year’s French Open.
The Italian No. 1 is coming off a first-round loss to Alexandr Dolgopolov in Madrid. Prior to that Fognini reached the final in Munich, won the title in Vine del Mar, where he defeated Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer, and reached the final in Copa Claro, where he lost to Spanish No. 2 David Ferrer. He will be looking to regain his momentum and pick up his first victory in almost 10 days.
Lukas Rosol’s best performance of the season took place in Bucharest, where he reached the final even though he failed to retain his title. He is coming off a three-set loss to France’s Jeremy Chardy in the opening round of the Mutua Madrid Masters.
These two competitors previously met at the 2013 Roland Garros Grand Slam event, which was a relatively straightforward affair, yet Rosol did manage to steal a set in the middle of the encounter before succumbing in four sets. If the Italian does not loose his cool during the encounter, he should manage a straight sets victory.
Prediction: Fabio Fognini in Straight Sets
