Sara Errani

World No. 11 Sara Errani and Kiki Bertens will meet for a fourth time on the WTA tour at the Family Circle Cup. The Italian holds an unbeaten 3-0 record against the Dutch native, and will be looking to further that streak on Wednesday afternoon.

Italian No. 1 Sara Errani has not had the best of starts to her 2014 season. After reaching the finals in Paris, Errani failed to go past the third round in either Indian Wells or Miami, which ultimately pushed her ranking just outside the Top 10. Having recieved a bye into the second round here in Charleston, Errani is faced with a relatively easy draw in her quarter, with potential clashes against Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys, yet she will begin her campaign this week against Kiki Bertens.

World No. 135 Kiki Bertens began her week in Charleston with a three set victory over Argentina’s Ormaechea and is now scheduled to face her highest ranked opponent this season in Sara Errani. She is yet to go past the second round of a WTA event this season, as she lost in that round in Rio de Janeiro, Florianopolis and Miami last week, where she lost to top Australian Samantha Stosur.

This marks the fourth time these two competitors will meet on the professional circuit, with Errani holding an unbeaten 3-0 record against Bertens heading into their match-up on Wednesday. Each of her three victories came on different surfaces, with the most recent being on the Acapulco clay courts in 2013. While Errani has been far from her best this season, the top ranked Italian thrives on clay, and will likely manage another win to reach the third round.

Prediction: Sara Errani in Straight Sets
