World No. 8 Jelena Jankovic and Canadian No. 1 Eugenie Bouchard are scheduled to meet for the second time in the quarter-final round of the Family Circle Cup on Friday afternoon. The head-to-head series is tied at 1-1, with each competitor earning a victory in 2013. Jankovic’s win came at this event last season, and she will be looking to duplicate her efforts this time around as well. Check out the Jankovic vs Bouchard H2H matches and stats.
World No. 20 Eugenie Bouchard took part in a third round thriller on Thursday afternoon, as she outlasted former World No. 1 Venus Williams to earn the 7-6(6), 2-6, 64. Williams held leads in all three sets, yet only managed to capitalize in the second set and therefore costing herself the match.
“In the second set she really started going for her shots. I just tried to keep fighting,” Bouchard said in her on-court interview with ESPN’s Pam Shriver. “It’s always fun for me to play against such a great champion like Venus. She’s still playing at such a high level and it was such a battle out there.”
Bouchard’s first appearance at a WTA Premier level quarter-final was at this event last year, and while she would lose to the same opponent she is about to face tomorrow, she hopes to improve upon that this time around.
World No. 8 Jelena Jankovic took part in a slightly easier third round contest, as she defeated Tomljanovic in straight sets 7-5, 6-1. The 2013 finalist is taking part in her 11th Family Circle Cup and campaigning for a second title at the event. She is 16-7 so far this season and looking to extend that further when she meet Bouchard on Friday.
With the series tied at 1-1, the Jankovic-Bouchard semi-final is set to be an exciting rubber match, with both competitors playing fine tennis this week in Charleston. Bouchard has never been past the quarter-final at this tournament, while Jankovic is looking to win his first title here since 2007.
Prediction: Jelena Jankovic in Three Sets
