Top seed Grigor Dimitrov and defending champion Lukas Rosol are scheduled to meet in what is expected to be a fantastic match in Bucharest on Sunday afternoon. This is the first time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour.
World No. 14 Grigor Dimitrov had a fairly easy route to the final, as his opponent Gael Monfils rolled his ankle and was forced to withdraw from the semi-final at 5-1 down.
“It is disappointing for Gael,” said Dimitrov. “As much as I am happy, it is an undeserved win and unfortunately it had to end that way. I saw what happened. I hope he will be okay for the coming weeks.
The Bulgarian has already won one title this season and is still the favourite to lift the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy for the first time in his career.
“I am confident, having beaten some good players. I have to be prepared as I know what to expect from him (Rosol). It will be a good feeling walking out onto centre court tomorrow.”
Lukas Rosol beat Robin Haase 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final in Bucharest. He hit 4 aces, won 56% of his firsts service points, and won 5/7 break points to earn the victory in one hour and 47 minutes. He is now one victory away from retaining the Bucharest title.
“We have never played each other. I think he is the favourite, but I have nothing to lose. I like playing on this court… and I will fight to the end.”
This marks the first time these two competitors will meet on the ATP World Tour. Rosol is playing at one of his favourite tournaments where he is most comfortable, while Dimitrov is brimming with confidence and looking for his second title of the season. While this is likely to go three sets, I expect an in-fomr Dimitrov to earn the victory in an exciting third set.
Prediction: Grigor Dimitrov in Three Sets
